Ok so I just bought my wrx two weeks ago and everyone keeps asking me how much power it makes so i'm just looking for a rough guesstimate. Its a 2002 with a cobb tune, catless downpipe, no resanator, apexi exhaust, and its making 15 psi. I know they're 227 stock im just curious what it's making now. I'm guessing maybe 240ish?

Yeah, not to be a **** or anything, but that's a pretty loaded question. One that no one will be able to answer. How much air is in the air? How many ants are in the ground? Who knows? If you have a smart phone like a droid, you can download a dyno program that will give you a hint as to how much power you are running. Or pony up the $$$ and hit up RS or MAP and get it tuned/dyno'd. You could be making more.

I would love to dyno it but I live almost four hours north of the cities that's why I'm just asking for a rough estimate so I figured I'd ask on here since you guys know more than I do.

If it's a stock turbo, low. The exhaust doesn't really offer much in terms of gains. Big exhausts and low restriction only starts to matter once the turbo goes bigger and is capable of pushing a lot more air. The tune can help a bit because the stock tune is pretty mild for what the turbo can do, but the gains (rather sizable) are in the midrange torque, not top end and peak hp.

I've got the same setup. Just tell them 230ish (mine did 230hp and tq) to the wheels or 280ish (to the 'crank' or whatever). Whatever makes your hair fly back.

People who are just in for a conversation will get what they are looking for.

It also depends on how crappy the gas in your area is.

I had my car open source tuned by Bullwinkle and it only turned 196 whp on RS Motors' Mustang dyno. It didn't have the grounding mod which probably contributed to the misfire I was experiencing and on the dyno it only made 16 psi of boost whereas on the street it regularly makes 19 psi in third.

The mods on my car are as follows...

    2002 WRX Wagon

    2.5" catless downpipe
    STi catback
    GM boost solenoid
    Bullwinkle tune

The guys at RS said I should make more and the major factors were the misfire issue and the gas I use from the Duluth/Superior area. They (both Bullwinkle and RS) say cars running the gas from up here consisently make less horsepower than those running the gas offered in the cities. Its not unreasonable for a well tuned good running car to make 220 whp on good gas but you're not going to get that with only 16 psi on a TD04.

I agree with the 200 whp number which translates to roughly 240 bhp as its well documented that manual transmission Subarus lose around 40 hp through the driveline.

So my guess of 240 was accurate, that's all I wanted to know. It's powerful enough for what I bought it for it's just my winter car/daily driver.

Stage 2 should be making about little over 200whp on pump or E85 about 250ish whp and 280ish trq. They only make about 186ish whp stock. If you want more power pm Nuke or Fuji. They know what they re doing.

My 03 WRX put down 229/230 at RS at the fall dyno day last year. The car has: 3inch TBE, up pipe, intake, bcs, stock turbo, stock injectors, and a bullwinkle tune on ****ty Fargo 91.

200 whp. Get a real tune and a 3-port and you'll be happy with the result. :)

my guess off of what I made with cobb off the shelf stage 2 it will be between 210-225whp...

but who cares... you could have a 400hp monster that drives like crap or a 200hp kitty cat that you can out drive other cars...

Like I said i'm not looking to make more power it's good enough the way it is since it's just my winter car/dd, I was just curious of a ballpark figure of what it was making. I don't want it to fast cuz I can't have it be faster than my mustang haha.

It all depends on the dyno. Dynodynamics (like DB's) is a "heartbreaker dyno" and reads roughly 18% lower than say a dynojet or mustang. Saying 40HP on a stock WRX somewhat makes sense but that isn't the correct formula for any other application.

It's actually a percentage loss and in most cases on an AWD car it's around 22-25% loss. For instance the stock Evo IX is rated at around 287 Brake HP and dyno's at around 225 stock which is around a 22% drive train loss. So if you're making 240BHP on a WRX after it's modded it'll be around 180-190AWHP or so I would assume.
