    Hello,
I'm not very active here but join a while back when I first purchase my 93 Impreza L wagon. With only 120k miles it needed a heater core replacement and tune up. How ever the car is long gone and I am in search of a older model 93-01 Impreza as a winter beater/dd. In particular there are several on cl but they are over 200k miles. Should I avoid these? I am aware of the head gasket failure on 2.5s so I'm staying clear of Foresters which was also a possible candidate. Is there any major issues I should be aware of with such an high mileage car? I'm budgeting under 3k. Thanks.

254,XXX on my 98 Impreza WGN 2.2L 5MT. Yes the 2.5's did have gasket problems, but from what I understand (correct me if I am wrong)it was only a problem with the factory gaskets and not the heads. Once the gaskets are replaced you are good to go. As for high mileage the motor tends not to be the problem... It's the tranny I worry about. I stick with MT because you can just replace parts instead of spending money to fix an AT and having it fail again shortly after. Just my $0.02
