I was wondering what options there are to get a non running car back to your place. I had a killer chance on a classic car a few weeks ago but it had not been driven much in the last few years. Ran ok but 4 wheel drum brakes sticking when ever they felt like it and rear wheel drive ment not driving it anywhere. I figured someone here might have a idea what options a guy would have since subaru's need to be flat bed towed.

How can I guy get a car like this home? It was 2 hours one way. Is there someone that doesnt charge a arm and a leg? Some place to rent a truck?

I'd rent a car trailer, that is if you have a truck you can pull the trailer with.

Um we have a truck 98 Ranger 4x4. Just big enough to pull our boat around.

That may be a bit on the small side. I'm sure the car you are hauling is quite heavy. You could always go this route.

Lol. Uhaul will rent you a moving truck & car trailer fairly reasonable.

Ha thought about towing it home with the nova but wreaking that and a 61 impala bubble top at the same time might be hard to explain to the insurance company.

Uhaul is a cheaper choice and easy enough to obtain, otherwise find a car trailer from a buddy that you know or somewhere you can rent one and haul with your pickup. If you want to spend money, call a car hauler. Also! if the locations are close enough to each other you could always just call a towing service, those usually run about 60 bucks around the FM area.

Well I didnt end up buying the car. I was damn close but didnt. I will be kicking myself for a long time on this one. Actually thinking about selling a few things to make sure there is a pile of cash laying there just for things like this. It was a older resto that was showing its age. A few rust bubbles and paint chips here and there. Was sitting in heated storage at the old guys place for the last 10 years hardly driven. Not being used it had issues there. Didnt like to start but once it did ran ok. Four wheel drums lol suck about as much as possable when they do work. These ones locked up occasionally when we moved it around the auto body place. They were sticky from sitting. Interior was done in some weird hair like stuff. Hard to describe ill see if i can throw up a pic. It did make me throw up a little. I could get all new stuff out of a catalog for this car for the interior and swap to disc brakes. That wouldnt be to bad concidering how cheap it was. I am prob being to hard on the car. It was wired for sound also pioneer stuff multiple speakers and a sub in the spare tire. lol.

Basically it was a decent driver quality car with 10 foot paint. I had him down to $8500 without even asking and am sure he would have went down more. Checking around on what ones in this condition have actually sold for in the last year said $15-16k. Finished ones go for tons of money. Usually in the 30-70k range.

It was in Grafton ND and Im in fargo. I think a guy I know that used to work for a tow place said from a hour away like 60 miles it was at least $600. So what would that be $10 a mile? So Grafton to Fargo would be 118 miles and $1180. Yikes. I will call around locally tomorrow i guess. I would like to make sure this doesnt happen again.

Crushed velour, lmao. I had a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville 389 V8 4dr hardtop when i was younger that was pretty much the same color. It was stored in a barn for 14 years and was extremely clean for an all original! I miss that car greatly.:(

Ah Velour lmao. Its like the guy said ok lets spend a bunch of money on the interior and make it look like a camel exploded in here. Having all that made was not cheap Im sure. It didnt hold up well either. The body shop guy showing the car said ... ya first thing I would do order a new interior. Ive done the interior on my nova so didnt scare me to much.

Know anyone that has used Uship?

I just did a uship auction to ship my 510 rally car from Dallas to Minneapolis got a guy with just a truck and trailer to do it for 570. It's like 970 miles so that's an amazing deal specifically wanted a transporter who wouldn't be putting this with 10 other cars then just leave around some shipping yard to have all my plastic windows broken so they can pawn my terratrip. He is based out of northern MN so it might be pretty cheap for him to move stuff only a few hours. Uship is kind of tricky, so make sure you know who your paying because often the lowest bid is a booking agency who turns around and relists your auction just to cut some money off the top.

I had my SHO shipped up here from MO and the going rate was right around a dollar a mile on the back of a dedicated car hauler.

I've had a couple of those "I should have bought it" cars in my past and I still kick myself.

Don't kick yourself, go buy it! You only get one go around, might as well take one out of the "I should have column" and put it in the "I'm glad I did" column.

Give these guys a call, they're local(ish) to you and they're the ones who transported my car out of MO. They did a great job:

Guy I work with that drove tow truck last winter said they flatbed at $3 a mile. So 130 miles would come to around $400. Still have to check a few others places.

Sh*t, if it runs, I would try to drive it. I have driven many a dicey cars home with little to no brakes. Have someone follow you with their flashers on and do 45 the whole way back. It would take a while but it will get you more familiar with the car and you'll have a great story to tell down the road.
