So I came across some BoBo's that had a little bit of damage (curb rash) on them. Not wanting to look like I have a serial attacker mindset towards street curbs, I set out to repair the wheels before mounting them on my car. This is my story: Things you'll need: Sandpaper (220 grit and 400 grit should work nicely) Paint Thinner Bondo putty or steel-infused Epoxy. I used JB Stick Weld. Primer Wheel paint of your choice. I went for Gold because it gets me higher. I mean, it looks good. Ideally though, you'll want a paint that matches if you're just doing a repair. For stock colors, try this website. Wheel clearcoat. I prefer the Duplicolor line because it's designed for wheel usage. They aren't the only ones, though. Get what you feel better with. Optional: A small sanding device (better than burning your arms out sanding) A file Beer Step one, clean. Get your paint thinner out and clean everything in the area with it. For small repairs, stick to the area in question. Step two, sand/file (220). I had quite a bit of success with sanding, but a file might be necessary for horrific curbage. Sand down the area until you've gotten it somewhat smooth. At the least, try to get the profile of the metal back in line. Step three, putty. Take your putty/bondo and fill the area. Only apply it to the places where repair is needed. DON'T FILL IT INTO AREAS YOU CANNOT SAND LIKE I DID. Step four, sand again (220 and 400). This time, you're trying to restore the profile of your wheel again. Get it good and smooth. Step five, mask off the wheel and sand (400). Rough up any remaining exposed paint. Sand it off completely if you can. Clean once more. Step six, primer. Read the instructions on the can and primer. You may want to wipe off any dust, excess residue, or just clean the area again. I put down 4 layers. Step seven, paint. Again, read the instructions. Go slowly and put down light layers first. Three or four layers should be enough. Step eight, clear. At this point, you may want to take off your masked area and spray your clearcoat. Three or four layers here again. At this point, you should be finished. However, BBS gold and Duplicolor are not close enough for me. So...
(Optional) Step nine, drink more beer and fume about your ignorance. Step ten, sand down everything on all your wheels, because you're going to paint everything now. Step eleven, clean off your wheels again. Drink more beer. Step twelve, primer. More beer. Step thirteen, paint. More beer. Step fourteen, clear. Run out of beer, switch to Whisky. Step fifteen, ???. Step sixteen, Profit!
