As I write this, it's a cold snowy day in late April and I have several parts in the garage waiting to go on my car... Summer seems like a long way off, but just earlier this week it was in the mid 70s so maybe it's really not out of reach to start talking about High Performance Driving Events and Open Lapping days at some "local" tracks. Here is a list of events that I hope to go to this summer because they are reasonably close, cheap and, while being casual, are not without caution to safety. May 24 - Madison SCC/ MCSCC - Blackhawk Farms Raceway Rockton, IL June 15 - FVSCC - Shawano Lapping Day - USAIR Shawano, WI June 28-29 - NASA - MAM August 1-3 - NASA - Road America August 17 - FVSCC - Shawano Lapping Day - USAIR Shawano, WI August 23-24 - Findtheline - MAM Sept 27-28 - Findtheline - MAM October 18-19 - Findtheline - MAM More information about registration, other dates, and rules regulations for individual events can be found at these websites: http://www.myautoevents.com http://www.fvscc.com/ http://www.nasamidwest.com/season/ http://www.findtheline.com
i have wanted to drive at road america since i was there when i was very young! anyone have more info on the RA event?
NASA doesn't put out a lot of info about an event until it's the next one in line. We may have to wait until July to hear about the RA event. Unless someone who has done it on here can provide more info...
i see, i will just have to wait then, unless the world comes to an end i will be there! whatever it takes!
Update on the USAIR event June 15: There is a car show/drift competion/open lapping Saturday June 14 http://www.streetfest08.com/
Sign up for Shawano Lapping day!!! send an email to [email protected] for pre-registration and let them know what time (morning or afternoon) you are interested in.
Tom just emailed me back, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT OR FUTURE ONES MAY NOT HAPPEN!!!! Please sign up and make this happen!
What kind of cost and track time are we looking at for the usair events? My parents live in wausau and would be a no-brainer to hit this if it's worth it.
you get 4 15 minute runs for a total of 1 hour (per half day session, so if you do both sessions that's 2 hours) - that's a lot of seat time
per session. it's still quite a good deal. yes, that track is a lot of fun - big elevation changes too.
in my wrx 2.0L with vf39 I was in 2nd gear the whole lap so ~ 60-65 mph at the fastest, could have shifted lower or higher in some areas, but it wasn't worth the time. Dang corkscrew turn got me twice last summer! I forget how many laps/miles I got in. I want to say around 50 miles -just in the morning. One session was cut short due to an accident... -> be careful on turn 1
I actually ran off into the hay on the outside of turn 1 on my second lap - first time stomping hard on the hawk hp plus pads and locked up the wheels
i can't afford to for this one sadly when I was there, a skyline ran off and down the slight embankment on the corner right before the straight
I'm on the fence. I have a wedding sat night so that would be cutting it really close. Where can I find the details on this? I looked on the fvscc but couldn't find exact details. I'm thinking more likely the august 17th event. Just for a reference on the cost Last time I was there I did 200+ miles at MAM and it was about $175 I think.
Go to myautoevents.com and look in the HPDE section, you should be able to find "Shawano Lapping" in there for June 14th. There's contact information on that site. Email Tom Hille any questions. I've done MAM a couple times. It's a longer track and you go faster - so you can get in more miles. USAIR is more of a cross between autox and open lapping. Like autox, it's short(1.1miles/lap) and tecnical, unlike autox, you get more than one lap at a time. I'll try to get to the august one as well. My parents live 1/2 hr from Wausau, so it's easy for me to get to these.
Bump! I'm going to Sunday Morning's session for the USAIR/fvscc event in Shawano. I am undecided on the MAM event in 2 weeks.
NASA canceled this weekend at MAM, but Findtheline (FTL) is taking over - $150/day saturday and sunday.
Find the Line at MAM August 23-24 is coming up soon. I will go if someone else is going. I don't like going alone in case something unforeseen happens.
I just got an email from Damien Dela Huerta who organizes Find the line events at MAM: I haven't signed up yet, but I will after work today. Just a heads up that it might not happen.
And I think I know who that person might be. I think this season is not going to work for me, there's still much work needed to be done on the new car, but definately keep me posted on next season's schedule.
