Does anyone know if the air conditioning has a direct effect in relation with the heating? I have been having condensation issues on the inside of the glass in my car since the cooler weather arrived. Seems like no matter how many times I clean it, still gets hazy which drives me crazy at night! It’s like the windows don’t defrost! Let me know what you know. I tried to snap some pics the best that I could.
Does your AC work in the summer? Also, does your fresh air/recirc slider correspond with where it's supposed to be for defrost? I feel like I've heard that the defrost and AC are somehow intertwined in "modern" vehicles to help remove the moisture from the air (as opposed to older vehicle defrost settings where you're basically just redirecting the warm air from the heater core.
Right now there is no AC at all. I have the stuff to swap it out, with exception of time. Lol That’s why i’m checking to see if they are in fact intertwined. If so, i will be working harder at freeing up some time to install it. I didn’t have AC last year either, but it was hooked up. Just had close to zero freon in the system. But all of the lines were connected and the belt/etc. were all connected and I don’t recall having the issue last year.
Cut out the heavy breathing! The two defrost positions on the dial turn on AC automatically by default. Unless you're like me and disable that function. If that's just humidity condensing, drive with the rear windows cracked just a hair. If you can, park it with the windows cracked. Get the trapped humidity out of the car.
I’m a mouth breather...get over it! Lol Cracking the windows does nothing, already have tried that and cleaning. But it makes sense that the AC comes on with the defrost settings. All that i know is that AC reduces humidity in homes. I wouldn’t be surprised if automobiles are the same. There are no “glory holes” in the floors Sheenis. There are in the RS tho!
I had this happen to me after i had my car detailed, and it was because the air selection was on recirculation the whole time. It must have been moved when they detailed the car and I didn't realize it.
This is more like the mirror in the bathroom after a hot shower. Wipes off easy...but comes back quickly
Until you get the AC installed, you could also try putting trays of rice in the car and leaving them there over night (or as long as possible). Well, not too long, you don't want it to burn. Otherwise silica gel packets work well to remove moisture, as does an open box of baking soda. Actually if you just replace the cabin air filter with a tray of rice, you can get some really nice rice circulation + moisture removal. Who needs AC!
Yep, the A/C system helps dehumidify the air, so that will help. Most cars turn on the A/C and disable recirc automatically when you select defrost for that reason. It does seem like you have excess moisture in the car. A body plug or weatherstrip failure can seep water into the carpet/insulation, and cause some nasty fogging.
If the cabin filter is old and clogged it may restrict flow to the defrost vents. When did you last replace it?
Of course. And ALWAYS pay the extra for the 3M brand. I used a cheap-a$$ off-brand from Menards to cover a window that had blinds mounted inside the frame...wanted to keep the dust off them while having some masonry work done on the fireplace. It was only on a few days, yet that $h!t pulled the varnish off the window casing. Never again.
