So I think I am going to have my wheels powder coated. But I only have one set of wheels... Anyone have any ideas on what i can do while my wheels are being worked on? My only solution this far is put it on blocks and let it sit. hmmm...... Opinion questions.. I am going black, or very close to it. Should i go gloss or no gloss.....
I have an extra set of wheels...you can just give me your car and my wife can drive it around for a week, lol. But really, are you getting tires dismounted, powdercoating, then remounting?
i would find a set of crappy wheels to run, since i wouldn't want to run a nice freshly powder coated set of wheels in a mn winter.
Hmmm... I would send the wheels to get powdercoated, junk the car, and then when you get the wheels back look for a new car for the wheels. I think either matte or gloss black could look good on almost any car, although I would lean towards gloss. Oh yeah, and I second the opinion that you should find other wheels for winter. Basically, I would only use the coated wheels in the summer but that's easier if you have two sets.
I like jamusix's idea. Just trash the car and find a new ont to put the wheels on when im done. I think i have decided what i am going to do. Its an 05 sti. i think im going to find a set of wheels i can put on there for a short time.
Gloss or no gloss will look nice. I lean toward the gloss though. Do you have a powdercoater picked out yet? If so let me know as i'm looking to get my summer wheels coated over the winter.
You would be fine to just put it up on blocks or jackstands if you have somewhere safe for it to sit. I am not sure what the standard turn around time is. It basically depends on how long you can be without your car. Otherwise it wouldnt be too hard to find someone to let you borrow a set of wheels and tires for the time being. Why are you people saying to not run powder coated wheels in the winter? Powder coating is a super hard a durable finish better than paint and whatever comes on the stock wheels. I would prefer to run powder coated wheels in the winter.
i said not to run them, not for the fact of rust/corrosion what-not, i wouldn't because accidents happen more often in the winter than during the summer (usually). I know i wouldn't be very happy with myself if i did a nice curb check with a nice set of wheels vs winter wheels.
You just payed all that money for powder coating, I wouldnt run them in the winter either, If I had another set of rims anyways.
+1 for not running powdercoated wheels in the winter and i'm talking from experience. Not worth the money to only get rashed up.
flat black FTW! and agreed, get another set for winter. that way you could have winter/rallyx tires on your winter set, and summer tires on your freshly powdercoated set.
