I haven't posted on the forum in a while, but last night I got a speeding ticket entering the hiway. I was fully established in the right lane before my radar went crazy with Ka detection, and I hit the brakes. Except, the cop was literally right behind me.

So, did my Escort let me down? Do you think his doppler was on the whole time, and it never picked it up? I want to put it on eBay right now because it all feels so preventable. And the thing is, I was going 70, it wasn't like I was trying to set speed records or being careless.

What has been the experience of the drivers here?

    Thanks
    Matt

I dont think it let you down but did you see the cop when you were entering the highway? was he on the entrance ramp behind you or was he on the highway and you came flying out of the entrance ramp? And lastly, what type of Escort was it? Radar detectors are nice but they are only there to help you not prevent anything. Also my only other piece of advice is slow down at night cause the night time works to the cops advantage in that it makes it much more difficult to see them. Tough luck though, always ****ty to get a speeding ticket.

The cop as actually on the highway as I entered, so I didn't see him. Does the position of the detector make a different on the windshield? I have it between the gagues and the left column, on my left. Does it have to be in the middle?

What would make me mad is if he had his doppler on the entire time, and all the time as I entered the hiway no alarm was sounded.

Oh well, but still I want to not get another one.

i found mine to work best if u have it in the middle of the windshield up above the back seats so it can detect from the rear. Also above the wipers. Go to the Valentine website and it goes in good detail about the position that is best for all RD.

highway cops rarely leave their radar running all the time unless they are parked they usually just keep their eyes open. It is really easy to spot a speeder if your trying. he came up behind you to pace you to see if it was worth writing you a ticket, then flipped on radar tagged you and pulled you over right away.
I know 2 state patrol men that cruise the on/off ramps like this all the time. because people are always speeding up to get around other drivers and don't check for cops when they need to avoid other traffic

Yeah...i dont think he had his Radar on untill he saw you on the highway passing other traffic. Always be looking for cops when entering the highway and only speed up enough to match the speed of traffic...then once you see it clear step on it but keep your eyes open and dont rely on your radar

I agree. They also love to turn their radar on when they're in opposite traffic about 50 feet before they get to you and before you have a chance to react. Most of them figure we have radar detectors so they're getting a bit trickier.

I'm sure your Escort is fine; he just flipped it on and nailed you. A detector does not make you invulnerable - with instant-on and laser you are counting on picking up signals from the people in front of you being tagged; if you are the sole target you are SOL.

Go meet with a hearing officer; if you have a clean record you should be able to get a probation deal - basically you still pay the fine but it won't go on your record.
