Monday Night 11:50PM...I was going down Portland which is Three lanes...I am going 25-30MPH...My car starts sliding to the right and in attempt to fight it I actully did a 360 and hit a parked SUV and the suv hit a Maxima in front of it..The maxima is fine just dented trunk and bumber...SUV is hit on back corner and ME my driver side door is MESSED up...A police report was filed..I was at no fault at all due to the Beauitful weather we have...So i got home I filed a clime right away and now I wait till tommorow for the phone call from the adjusnt...i believe is called...OPPS..Btw I am fine...or at least i think so..just a couple of scratchs on my hand...The car is at my house now...so..

I know many of u had these experince please give me any adivce u have...I would really appricate it..I do have a couple of questions whiche are...

    - Do u guys think it could b considered totaled?..It's drivable!!
    - I was at NO FAULT, I got no ticket..Will my insurence company be obligated to cover the the other two cars????
    - Also If I have to take it to a shop where, or only subaru???And do u think they can like paint or fix a couple of other things and throw it on my insurnce bill?????

All help is VERY VERY appricate it...This is my first accident and I have no clue of anything..

    Moh

    Ouch!
If that happened at 30mph, I'd hate to see what would have happened at highway speeds!
I don't know how that would work with you're insurance, and the other cars, being that you are supposedly not at fault.
I would imagine if you are not at fault, the other cars' owners' insurance would cover it under comprehensive.
Don't bet on insurance covering anything other than what occured this incident. (you're talking fraud here) Though some body shops have been known to give a better deal to cash paying customers, if you get my drift.

I have only one claim on my subaru, and that was with hail damage...the insurance adjuster insisted that the pings on the spoiler were "manufacturer defects" I wonder how SOA would have liked to hear that.

If I ever have to make another claim...when they ask "any previous damage to the car?" I hope I can remember "only the stuff you wouldn't fix last time".

Good to hear you're OK...I'd say the car is far from totalled...if they tell you it is, buy it back for sure!

People seem to be confused about no fault, my understanding from previous subrogation is that the "no fault" only applies to the personal injury part of any claim. There is still a "fault" percentage that is split between the insured parties. BTW you are at fault in this case, generaly the term for this sort of accident is "too fast for conditions" but a prick cop might give you a reckless or careless if he or she feels like it. Your insurance will be paying for a portion of the damage to the other cars, or you could if you would like to save on insurance bennefits. Your car is repairable, it looks like the front right fender and door are toast, some body shops might choose to repair the rear door.

I wouldn't worry about this one accident, unless you have other driving infractions on your record. Just get your car fixed at a quality body shop and move on.

New fender, new doors, mirror, glass and moldings, new rocker. Paid deductible and BAM back on the road.

Being an 5-6 yr old vehicle is your only worry really about being totaled.

Thanks guys, I am ok..I am feeling just fine....OK..So I will just go along with what happens from here...BTW YES it is my first accident...I don't see why would they total it unless cost of repair excceds the value...so we'll see what happens when I go in for an estimate....Do u guys think I should only take it to a Subaru Dealership...or any autobody...if so Please name a few good ones...and i'll keep u guys updated with any info...

Man...Frogy u really eased things...u made it all sound so easy..thanks for the info...

This is my concern. Are you sure it was only 30mph? And the SUV gave way a bit after hitting it?

I hit a utility pole sideways at about 60mph with my 96 L and it did this:

Glad everyone is okay. Sorry about the hassle, man.

I don't know the physics here, but my thoughts are that he didn't say he slid sideways into the SUV at 25-30mph but rather was going 25-30 mph and spun a 360 into the SUV. That wouldn't be just linear forces involved. Think about the difference between a bunt and a swing in baseball: batter is stationary, the bunt is fixed and uses only the linear force of the pitch (or in this case the 25-30mph linear speed), the swing adds the kinetic (?) energy of the swinging bat rotating around the still relatively stationary batter.

Maybe I have it all wrong, but that's just my thinking. And again, glad yer alright!

Damn that sucks!!! Glad to hear no one got hurt though thats what really matters. Its hard to say on the damage. The estimators get a little carried away some times I think... A guy pulled out in front of me a couple months ago and I just barely tapped him in my dakota. I got a scuff on my bumper and a broken headlight and the insurance came up with 1200 bucks worth of damage out of that. Hopefully everything gets fixed up quickly and you're happy with it in the end. I'll second the vote for Hamline auto body! Also heard good things of Raymond auto body on here.

First things first - go to a doctor and get yourself checked out. Insurance will probably make you 100% at fault for this.
Buy good winter tires for next winter.

this is true, the insurance company of the other people's vehicles will contact yours and assign a % liability or "fault" of the accident. Since the other 2 vehicles were parked you are screwed and your insur. will have to pay for their repairs. I know because I got in an accident where there was a 50/50 split of fault and I had to pay for my own repairs and the other driver had to pay for his. Inciment weather and lack of a ticket is no grounds for what insurance will or won't cover.

Is it an '02? How many miles? Since it looks like the A-pillar is messed up, I'm guessing it will be close to being totaled. I can't tell from the pics what the B-pillar looks like. Half the car will need to be repainted to blend everything

    fender= ~$250
    2 new doors= ~$800-1000
    rocker= upwards of 400
    mirror-100
    glass, mouldings=300

take about $700 in paint, 20 hours of labor minimal and you get:
    a totaled car.

I'll bet they total it. too much labor cost indeed and those guys like to write up some major figures sometimes.

If its cheap buy it back from the ins co, and swap time!

The best shop I've dealt with in the twin cities is Autoworks out in rockford. Its pretty far away, but thier paint work is just amazing. Even the most difficult paint gets matched perfectly. Your paint will likely be better looking than the day it rolled off the line.
They're not cheap, but if insurance is paying they will do it right.

Other then that...I guess both ways don't sound bad...If it's a total...then I WILL BUY IT BACK...and SWAP it into an older impreza....But if they can repair it then I guess...i'll b back in the the bugeye....We'll see what happens....The only thing I don't feel like doing is dealing with the other cars that I hit...I wish I had hit a poll...or something...

    I'll keep u'll updated....

    Depends.
If insurance pays you for the parts then, obviously no. (This is extremely unlikely unless the otehr insurance company is paying)
If they're not, yes, but with an exception: on something that replaces a part that came on a car (say a shock or a wheel), those stay with the car unless you can replace them with OEM parts.
If they're not paying for your aftermarket parts you should have full rights to remove them as long as your car is "complete" without them

when they totaled my SRT i was able to go into the repair shops yard and swap my parts for the stock ones. i forgot the radio and they said if i didnt bring one in they would knock $300 off my payout. usually the shop is willing to help you out. just make sure the car is whole.

Buy it back for what ever they offer (prolly around $1500) then find a rustfree GC/GF and do the swap.
