I hate them. Some of you are already aware that Aegis and I hit a deer in her car this weekend coming back from an outing to Bogart's to see Jess from MTKA parts and his band play. The front bumper and front drivers side fender are crushed, and the front driver headlamp is shattered. Honestly, I'm just glad the both of us aren't dead. There was about a 1 foot difference between the deer flying off to the side of the car and it flying into the windshield. If anyone has an 04 headlamp for the driver's side they don't need, let me know. At least with that she can be back on the road and allowed to drive at night. Otherwise, I will be able to get my front tire patched this week (Thanks MTKA again, my saviors) and she can drive that after a crash course.
Deer ****ing suck as anything but dinner. (Venison=Yum) The current massive overpopulation is making driving anywhere unsafe. I almost hit some deer on Snelling near Grand fer chrissake. Need to do something about the forest rats. Good luck on your repairs. I'm a big fan of Autoworks out near Rockford if you're willing to take the drive. Amazing paintwork.
I'll get some pics tomorrow when the sun is out. Right now bay 3 in the garage is full of junk that awaits spring cleaning, and bay 1 has spilled over into bay 2 of the garage since I am knee deep in agonizing suspension problems. The perches on my coilovers are somewhat immobilized due to road grime. The decision to repair them or to replace them is on the plate at the moment. If I do replace them, I'll buy a sewing machine and some vinyl and make dust covers for the exposed threaded tubes and such, I don't want to have to deal with this crap again. And thanks to Perrin's crappy fitting wastegate, the fill/dipstick tube on my tranny has snapped off. So that is also something I have to deal with...for now, thanks to Ben at MTKA, I have a 2.5N/A sparkplug rubber sheath plugging the hole. I'll need to do a tranny fluid change before it hits the road again as there was some milking of the fluid due to water getting in there. Shouldn't be an issue though. My front tire is also flattened, and will need to be patched. Kindof a rough time to have two cars down. That is why I'm going to furiously try to get mine back on the road since it is all stuff that I can do relatively cheaply. As for her car, I'm thinking that replacing the hood and fender would be the best option. Once I have some free funds, I'll pick those up either new or from ebay or something like that. Any hood will do really, a hoodscoop on the RS wouldn't be a big deal really. The headlamp is priority one though.
sounds like its damaged just like my car. there are always a bunch of lamps on nasioc but fenders are pretty hard to find. ive been looking for about 4 months
There's a bunch of part-outs for STi's and what not on nasioc. I bet you could get a set of HID's for pretty cheap.
Agreed! boy do I wish I only had 2 not-street-worthy cars (currently have 4! and my loyale isn't far behind).......and looks like that number's going to get worse before it get's better. Sarah and I had a close call with a deer last week in her OBW......scared the crap out of me. we got extremely lucky!
Seriously, looking back on it, one foot to the left and it would have destroyed the bumper. One foot more to the right and it would have went through the windshield and got us both. The way we hit it was about as perfect as you can get without having the planets aligned. The damage isn't bad, really we just need a headlamp to have it road worthy again, it drives fine. Still want to peek under the hood during the day to make sure nothing vital got crimped under the hood.
nothing really sad part is, if you would've come to the ice races it wouldn't have happened ok, seriously now... what kind of damage is there really? is the core support and everything all good or...?
I haven't popped the hood yet, but judging by what the car looks like on the outside, I'm guessing everything is probably fine. Thank God for steel hoods.
no kidding man. well if you want some help with any of it, i will be around town the week of the 10th if you want some help
+1 for deer hate. I'm glad you guys are OK. Let me know if I can help in some way. As for Taras's comment, I don't think it's far out of line. We are in MN after all, it's not like that sort of thing doesn't ever happen. Four days after receiving my brand-new Saturn Ion in 04, I was struck by a deer. The damn thing took off before I could break its neck and eat its still-warm heart. The damn thing chased me across 2 lanes! That's an act of aggression!
I'd keep the deer if it was in decent shape. If that one I nailed a few years ago doing about a hundie wasn't mince meat, I would have kept it. Subsequently, my car was also mince meat, but I held onto that. :dunno:
I'm sorry jason, steph. If i could make it better through some sort of sacrifice to dog I would. best of luck!
To be honest, when we got home I was all about getting in the MagWag and rolling back to the site of the hit, finding the deer, and then wailing on it mercilessly with a crowbar. Or even just putting the boots to it. I definately didn't want to eat it though. I'd rather have something that was legitimately hunted...not some road rash venison.
I'll be back from P&L late monday night of that week, so I may have to join that party. With a sixpack to donate to the cause of course...
I'll PM you the details. Just be sure to hit me with a phone call first, just to make sure I'm at home.
fo sho man, i think i have your number...but it gets confusing as hell with multiple people with the same name in there...party numbers ftl.
Careful, too many visitors and I end up putting you to work...you know how it is here. I have a suspension that needs to be unseized and raised or at the very least unseized and re-set to proper heights...the rear struts are sagging a bit. Also, tranny fluid change. Yes, you can has beer too
Ok, I'll check back later to see who else wants beer and well wishing or whatever. Time to go snuggle up to the Aegis and watch her play horrifying Silent Hill games while I drink. Try to wind down from a crappy week of deer maiming and expensive car part annihilation.
Yeah, when thinking about it more its a little nasty. And in your situation it would be hard to pack it in the car, i mean you could have chopped it in half or so and stuff it in the trunk. A truck would be easier, through it in the bed and you are back on the road.
yea, we got lucky, it ran out in front of us, and instead of doing the stereotypical thing and stopping, it turned away from the car and ran along the side of the road. we drove along side it for about 10 feet before I could stop (snowy road.....old-school ABS), the whole time with it only about a foot away from the car.
