I have a question about idle boost

I've driven everywhere with my car. The VF30 turbo spools fine and hard to redline at 16-17 psi. My concern is that when I'm at idle and I rev up the motor, I don't build any boost. My boost gauge will not read above ~0 psi (+/- 2psi). I've seen some WRX cars that can rev their motor and have the BOV release air when they let off the gas. I've tried to rev it to redline once and still the boost gauge will not go past 2 psi nor will my BOV release boost pressure. The ECU has had an EcuTek reflashed from Vishnu on 91 octane. Is this normal, is this abnormal, or does anyone think the reflash could have done this to keep the motor in safe mode for such conditions boost is unnecessary? :???:

Hmm... sounds like you want to give people the vroooomPPPPSSHHHHH!!! at the stoplights. :-p

My car doesn't build any boost without a load that needs it...with stock or modified programming. The turbo car I have isn't a subie, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents anyhow.

If you were able to get boost at idle I think you would be doing your car wrong.

Unless you have a different transmission than I think you do, I wouldn't want to launch with boost...you'd probably vaporize first gear.

Well, revving my car to cars at stoplights doesn't happen often, but it'd be fun. :D I'd rather have them think my car is slow and then see their reaction when I overpower them. I just had a feeling that not building boost with no load could not be normal, because I thought that boost builds as RPMs goes up. I'm a newb to turbos. :I

Off Topic: I think the shorter gearing RS transmission can handle power just as well as the WRX tranny. It takes less power to rotate a short gear than a longer one, right? I calculated 61 mph in second gear at 7000 rpm. Is that close to a WRX's gearing?

*knocks on wood* I would never want to experience shredded teeth. Wouldn't you believe that the RS-T's that strip their gears are due to the tremendous torque the motors produce in the low RPM's? ...all else being equal. Our tranny's are built for torque, but sadly not turbos.

Back to the subject, thanks for the response guys! I didn't know Subarus had this feature to fight against tranny damage. Besides, boosting the motor without proper airflow through the intercooler will cause detonation, wouldn't it?

It will take some time before the air temps get hot enough to cause det. I only generated 16-18psi of boost to launch.}:)
