Its insignia is a group of six stars which represents the Pleiades star cluster in the constellation taurus. this star cluster is called "subaru" in japan.

ancient peoples often attached an evil reputation to the pleiades. black sabbath and all hallow's eve were set to occur when the pleiades reached thier highest point at midnight in autumn. many ancient cultures record the cluster as having seven stars, instead of six. apparently, the seventh star has dimmed in recent times, as we can only see six with the naked eye. according to mythology, the seven stars were supposed to represent the seven daughters of atlas, who held the world on his shoulders.

today the six visible stars represent the six japanese companies that merged in 1953 to produce autos. recently, the logo has changed. subaru has brightened one of the stars and moved it away from the others in the group. this brighter star symbolizes alcyone, the brightest of the six stars in the pleiades. considering the constellation in which the pleiades reside, one would think that subaru would have named one of thier car models taurus. ford however, beat them to it.

came out of a book called "The book of totally useless information" by Don Voorhees.

    here's mitshubishi's story.

The mitsubishi logo, three diamonds in the shape of a porpeller, is not an accidental arrangement. the mitsubishi company was a big manufacturer aircraft most notabably, and unforunately for the american navy, the AGM, known as the zero. (zeros were the planes that were used to launch the attack on pearl harbor. ironically, they were constructed with steel purchased from the united states.)

The zero was intorduced in 1936. at the start of the war it was the best naval fighter in the world. the apperance of the grumman f6f hellcat fighter aboard U.S. aircraft carriers, in 1943, heralded the end of japanese air superiority. the hellcats were faster and more maneuverable then the zero. in the last two years of the war they shot down 5,156 enemy aircraft, nearly 75% of all the U.S. navy kills.

american industry rose to the japanese challenge in the early 1940s and was one of the primary catalysts for the U.S. victory in world war II. Mitsubishi has since succeeded in producing more peace-oriented machines. the company's propeller logo, however, a left over from jampan's imperialistic days, still proudly adorns mitsubishi autos and electronics products.

now wasn't that a pethatic story about mitsubishi
