nice set up, ive always wanted a live reef saltwater setup but never have had the time or money to throw at one.
dude i used to be nutzo into saltwater tanks. I had a drilled 65 with hard/soft coral and completely decked out with equipment. wish i still had it set up. Its for sale for 300 with tank, stand, and lighting if anyone is interested
I used to have a 25g show tall reef setup. Was all over the saltwaterfish.com forums. That was a few years ago. I actually went halfsies on it with my roommate at the time. well, I let him keep the equipment. Shouldn't have. I convinced a native friend of mine to get into it, if that's any consolation!
I kinda miss it. It was such a fun hobby but it takes soo much time and money that i couldnt keep up.
So how much work is keeping a salt tank? I bet it is too much work for me. I am kinda lazy. I have always been curious about salt tanks but think I will get a fresh for my daughter and I.
saltwater tanks are extremely rewarding but depending on so many variables like how big and what you want to keep that the price and effort to maintain one can go in so many different ways. If you just wanted to get your daughter a small take with a few nemos and some colorful rocks, that is neither expensive or too time consuming but the second you start to add live coral, it gets really tricky, really fast...
I used to work at a fish store for about 4 years so i really know the whats what about that stuff so if you ever think about starting one up, shoot me a pm and i'd be glad to give ya a hand
hey lue maybe you can come help me set up my salt water tank...my 50gallon tank has been sitting in my room for ages...with nothang in except some dust bunny...

thanks for the compliments everyone! as stated, it is a costy hobby. this whole setup cost me about 300. 30 for 5 gallon tank combo. 12 for the 50/50 light bulb 30 for new hood and light 25 for the live sand 40 for live rock 15 for hydrameter 20 for heater 40 for custom filtration system 12 for 2.5g tank used as sump 15 for water tester kits 18 for the orange firefish 30 for the coral frag with the mushrooms 3.99 x 3 scarlet hermits(1 got eaten) 2.99 for turbo snail 2.99 for astria snail(also got eaten) 7.99x2 peppermint shrimp and some more i can't think of now. this is only for a 5g. the bigger ones can cost thousands. btw herc, just let me know when you want to setup yoru tank.
got a 75G I just tore down...Just like modded cars...u never get your money back...You'll be lucky to get 30% of what u put in...for Saltwater
Heh, you to Ray? I had mine setup for over 4 years and tore it down just recently. The coral I pretty much gave away to people that gave it to me. Still have alot of hardware, ALOT! MH's, PC, VHO, ASM skimmer, Remora skimmer, 20l, 20h, 40 breeder with bulk head/overflow, 8 power heads, 2 sump pumps, etc, etc. I need to sell it but too lazy to try on TCMAS.
The plan is to be moving out...selling home...etc...disappear for a while, pay no taxes...yada yada haha
I wish I had my computer to post some pics of my old tank.... Dammit I miss that thing. Better than TV, seriously.
1 250 gal salt agressive 1 120 gal salt reef 1 30 gal salt reef now setting up a 1000 gal salt reef / semi agressive for a store.
Let's see, I started out with a 12 gal nano-cube (when they first came out like 3 years ago). Then I went to a 20-long with a 250 watt metal halide above it and a mag 7 (sps tank ). I was just about to start up a 5.5 gallon that would have been totally sweet but I decided to get out of it and keep some green tree frogs instead (so much easier to move them around when you don't really have a "real" home). Oh, and I used to work at www.oceansfloor.net or you could call it www.ofacorals.com. pics!!!
