I bought an 06 Impreza 2.5i in December. Now the more I have it, I wish I had a WRX. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the car. Especially considering I had a 2000 Saturn LS2 prior to this car. I've looked for this car for like 4 years and finally I could afford it, but I wish now I had the turbo. Oh well...I still got a lot of stairs from people this weekend when I went back home and drove around there. It's a much smaller town, about 4000.

They hold their value pretty well though right? So in a few years I could go back, trade it in and upgrade.

i am not so sure about how they hold thier value with in 2-3 yrs of purchase, but i know in the long run they keep their value. subies w/ over 200k and around 1993 or so still go for around 2500. anyother car would be like 500. lol

I'd check with the dealer and see if they give you a good deal on a trade in. You'll lose money no matter what but since they already made a profit off you once they may cut you a good deal for a WRX. Keep in mind your ins may be more for the WRX beyond the payments.

well i actually got an amazing deal on it. paid dealer's invoice on it. they showed me an invoice. I had it checked with a good friend of mine who is in auto sales. so who knows. They still made some money, but not sticker price.

Yeah a WRX might give you more power, but step back and compare both (advantage and disadvantage) of yours 2.5i and the WRX.

What good about each car? For me there is only two reason I still have a RS:

    1) Gas (which in summer may cost up to $3-$3.50 per gallon) and I live in rosemount I commute to the city everyday. Also you don't need premium gas.

    2) My insurance is much lower.

    my 2 cent.....please don't burn me....

Once you get the WRX, you will wish you had the STI. And then once you get the STI, you will complain that gas costs too much and you will wish you had a 2.5i.

    It's a vicious circle, lol. :p

Welcome to as I call it "RS inadequacy syndrome"

The truth is, after 3-4 years it will even out in value with a WRX. The NA's resell better becuase there is a significantly lower chance of Vin Diesel having been its previous driver, and there is a lot less that tends to go wrong with them. My 02 RS was worth as much as an 02 WRX blue book wise.

Have fun with the RS (i will never call it a 2.5i) and enjoy it for a few years. Used WRX's come up all the time, you won't have to pay much more to get into a WRX later if you are looking used.

Don't let the pwer get you down, I have beaten many a WRX on the autoX circuit in my RS. the 2.5i should be better in many ways, it already makes the power my modded rs did since it has the VVT and equal length headers stock now. It will always have a slight handling edge over the wrx as its slightly lighter, and the lack of turbo lag and plenty of up front torque makes it a good autocrosser.

don't give up on it yet! (says the person who ditched his RS for a turbo...)

thanks for the advice...i'll hold on to it for a while. until i can justify the amount of money i have lost on it due to depreciation. I have thought about the Gas thing, not having to put premium in it or the insurance with a turbo would kill me too, especially not being 25 when my insurance would go down.

does anyone know what the hp is in the 2.5i? I think I read it has 175 or something. Not sure.

Isn't the WRX a big step. Doesn't it give alot more HP? Not too familiar with them. You'd think a turbo would give it more HP, but ya never know.

    Decent step up. 06 WRX is 230HP vs 06 2.5i w/ 173HP.

I dunno. I'm happy with my 2.5i. I'm more content with being able to go thru twisties quicker (after i get some suspension upgrades) then going fast in a straight line. But that's just me. I also have a problem staying under the speed limit...

Another plus to a 2.5i that was just mentioned, no Turbo Lag. But once the turbo goes, well, then your in for the trip. I'd save up for the WRX, not everyone can have an STi, and WRX is just as good. Perhapts even a little more practical.
Especially the WRX TR. That is a nice car.

I'd almsot buy a 2.5L TR over an STi nowadays, the new motor is really that good. Still not as good as an STi, but can be modded for more power, and you still dont get the STi tranny but still save $10k

Ask fong, that motor is what's in his 270WHP shaggin' wagon.
