I have decided to resurrect this, in a manner of speaking. I'm frustrated to tears with my current job. I've been doing it too long. No matter what I do in this position, it seems, they always find something to harp on me about. Whether it be how much "dead air" I have on a phone call, or how I process my transactions, or how long certain things take. They say they are about the "service" when in actuality all they give a damn about is the numbers. Whenever one thing is done right, they will change something, and then harp on you for not knowing the new procedure even if it was not correctly delegated to you. This micromanagement is killing me, I really feel like I have 10 different bosses, and now all of a sudden the way I did my job is no longer good enough for any of them. I am a service person, I like being nice to people and doing things when I SAY I am going to do them - and F all to my stats for phone compliance. Apparently that is not how a customer service person is supposed to operate. I am not saying this is a bad company to work for, heck no. I'm saying that this particular job has destroyed my spirit almost completely, and I am not getting paid enough to deal with this sort of crap. Every day is a bad day, and this is not going to end well for me if I stick around. I have searched our internal postings and so far, have found nothing. With that said - here is what I am good at. I have a series 6 securities license (insurance/annuities and funds) and a 63 license to sell said products. I am also in the process of obtaining a series 7 (stocks/bonds and everything else) I have an extensive background in technology and support. I have worked on a phone at one entry level job after another for the last 5 years. I think I've dealt with every single angry person on the face of the planet (or at least in the US) Extensive knowledge of annuities (variable, fixed, riders) and how insurance products work. I think I'm past entry level at this point. I do not want another phone job. I may be great at customer service, but I'm also an excellent writer, and know my **** which would be good for say, marketing. Anyone who works at a financial institution, I would like to know if you are hiring. Please PM me your websites and I'll start sending out the resume. This has to end now, I'm tired of feeling like a little ant that is 2 seconds away from being stepped on again. Thanks everyone
Boiler Room ftmfw i enjoy watching people recognize they are in something they do not like. props to you my dear. i was in a similiar situation last year and i ended up finding that internal job you were looking for...well ended up that i found that i dislike big(fortune 100) companies in general...not just my job and not just this company. now what i am trying to do is to get them to agree to part time work here so i can spend the other time doing something more enjoyable while still enjoying the medical coverage, 401k, golden hand cuffs, etc. Justin
Yeah, Taras, I toyed with that idea years ago. Not really my thing. Words cannot express how deeply frustrated I am with this job right now. Seriously you guys. I am totally spent. Justin - internal would be wonderful, but it feels like all I can do is a phone job in this company. I think leaving for something temporary while looking for something here that would not base me on my f... numbers would be really helpful. Our back office (which is where I'd love to go) needs people so desperately they are pulling us off the phones (I am not considered because they consider me a valuable asset to the phone queue) but no positions open. WTF?
Hey Aegis have you ever thought about sales? Not saying you should come sell cars, parts etc. If you like dealing with customers I heard sleep number bed pays well and any cell phone company also. I think Verizon pays the most.
Yah, I have thought about sales, but I don't want to be stuck in a position where I'm making money based on hurting people in one way shape or form. I'm not into that. I was thinking of sales *consulting* - which is where you give sales advice based on certain situations, as well. Mr L, I'll sell car parts, if your dept is hiring.
You do seem like an excellent writer. Do you have kids? If not, minimize your financial obligations and go back to school. Pick something ambitious and get started on that path soon. You don't want to find yourself in the same boat 10 years from now, trust me, I know. I recommend picking something that will liberate you from corporate america, e.g. a health care related profession. Do whatever it takes to make it happen, borrow money, whatever. It may be the only way to ensure you wont be in the same position later in life. Good luck with whatever path you choose.
haha silly ... i was not directing that at anyone in particular, it's just my general consensus on sales, especially sales of the types of products I deal with on a daily basis. I mean, in a nutshell, I do not want another numbers job. I do not want my performance to be based on how much I made in one day. This job has gotten me into the mindset that I'm not good with *anything except annuities* If you must know, i HAVE considered selling subarus at least 10 times before I'd be very good at that. So stop yer cryin :nono:
Something compleately different, but i'll tell you about what I do at boston scientific tonight. Our area is growing by leaps and bounds.
Primerica, eh? part time is an option, as long as the pay is good (meaning - about what I make now which is around 17/hr, maybe a bit less than that) I'd be much happier working part time but only if it pays the bills
Yea, it wouldn't be a "pay the bills" job...more of an extra "fun money" job. Not straight away, at least. The bonuses are excellent though, and that all depends on each individual's performance. You would be very ideal for that company. It just takes some time to work up to higher levels. Probably not what you're looking for, huh?
I've had entry level positions for the last 5 years, I think I'm past that But I donno, ... it depends on the job, I don't want to start over in another phone position - AGAIN -
It's hardly any phones--mostly in-person meetings. Man, it sucks to hate your job. Try looking on monster and careerbuilder...Good luck!
It's a packaging company. They are a distributor, and you'd pretty much be responsible for assisting customers and your sales reps by taking, quoting, sourcing, entering, expediting, and tracing orders. It's where I'm working right now, but only 10 minutes ago, I was offered a position at my family's business in S. St. Paul. LOL
Executive Assistant to the President of the company (my aunt) LOL My fiance, dad, aunt, 2 uncles, and two cousins work there...That's gonna be funny. I'll probably never see them of course...I'll be in the office, and they're all in the Parts/Service area.
I had almost the same experience with finding a good job, now going back to school at the age of 28. Its never too late.
Yea, I figure I'll graduate when I'm about 27 or so. (Going for CSI!) I've got one semester under my belt, but I'm in no rush at all.
You could be a cook at some super-sweet restaurant, usually quite laid-back and liberating. Also, you aren't just a number and won't have to deal with customers directly! But, you won't be able to call in sick (ever), have any significant amount of vacation, you won't get paid much, and you'll work crappy hours. BTW, anyone know a restaurant who needs a cook/sous chef? My job is FTL!
ya im looking for a job also. about 1 1/2 months ago i got canned from pizza hut where i was managing making some good money. now ive got like only $200 left and ive got a kid and a wife to support and i cant find anything.
