I need a puppy! *UPDATE* Pictures of Pup!

Has anybody seen lab pups for sale on the side of the road anywhere? I want to surprise my girlfriend with the puppy of her dreams. I would adopt one but the procress is incredibly long and I would like to get one soon. It doesn't matter if they are mixed because I typically like mutts even better. Thanks for the help in advance!

Please don't buy your puppy from a pet store. These are puppies from Puppy Mills. Just do a google search for "puppy mills" and you will understand.

A "mutt" is a good way to go, they often are more robust and live longer rather than bred dogs...due to interbreeding.

I got my golden retreiver/lab mix from Rescue a Golden of Minnesota. GREAT people!

Are you certain a puppy is the way to go? Yes they are damn cute but they are alot of work and time wise to train and house break, etc.

We got Tucker when he was about 1.5 years old, already house broken, doesn't bark or pee or poop or tear stuff up. He is a great dog.

Although, the Black Lab/German Shorthair/Golden. Looks like it might work out for you.

Another EXTREMELY important thing is to make sure you socialize the puppy, take it to the dog parks all the time, and make to take it to the pet stores and then give people treats to feed to the puppy. This way the dog thinks that people are good and provide treats.

If dogs aren't socialized properly they can develop fear agression which as they get older causes them to act out...bite at people that come to close, growl, etc. It's not fun.

    Best of luck!

    Let us know what happens.

Great info! I definitely didn't want to buy one from a pet store. My sister had gotten a Golden Lab from RAGOM and it was a great dog. I'm going to keep my options open and find the first great lab that needs a good home. But don't worry we won't be getting a pet store dog for ethical reasons. My main place you will find me after we get a dog is the new dog beach on White Bear Lake! I'll let everybody know when i find a great new pet. We should have a Mnsubaru dog party!

I don't believe all the hype about buying a dog from a pet store. We got our dog at a pet store we were told what breeder she came from she has all her paperwork and beside that the dogs at the store need a home to! absolutly if I find a dog I can rescue I would do it but the dogs from the store are no worse than the dogs thrown into the back of a minivan and cruised up and down University late at night. I know some of you saw them on fri. But anyway I would love to have a dog get together at a park some time!

Also check out petfinder.com. You can look for Lucky Dog Rescue on there. I think they started as a German Shepard rescue, but have a bunch of other dogs and cats too. My wife and I fostered dogs for them for about a year, which was great. They don't have any actual building space of their own, but instead have volunteers that take care of the dogs until they're adopted.
