I have slept less than 10 hours over the past week. i feel like crap, i have "officially overdosed" on my pills now, but i still cant sleep, still have a sore throat, and still have a runny nose. needless to say, classes from 8am till 3pm will suck hardcore tomorrow.

just figured i would post it up, not to many people on and i am waiting for these bad boys to kick into overdrive.

Ambien CR works for me, only needed 30 of them all last year. Once I get into a patern of no sleep it becomes cronic.

i hear ya brother...i have the same problems. basically i'm trying not to get addicted to tylenol pm. have you tried that yet? take 1 pill 2 hours before you want to go to sleep. that works for me, if it doesnt for you, take 2 pills. you can also take benydryl because benydryl is the part of tylenol pm that makes you sleep. actual drug name is like dyphreamamine or someting like that.

i've also tried sleeping teas. while not as effective as the pills, it still does seem to work.

I know how you guys feel. I used to suffer from the same thing.

I know everyone is saying try this and try that, but alot of what they are recommending will make you fall asleep, but it will get you all groggy in the am, which sucks almost worse than not being able to fall asleep.

I used to use Melatonin, which works for quite a few people. It's the lack of Melatonin in your system that keeps you awak at night. Time release Melatonin is the best and better than that, it's not an over the counter drug and it's fairly cheap for a decent amount. 100 pils for less than $7 bucks. Check that out.
One other thing I have tried that works for me and doesn't leave me groggy in the AM is SleepMD, which is also fairly cheap and can be bought at any store from Cub Foods to Walgreens. SleepMD is the sh*t! It's all natural and you wont grow to rely on it.

tylenol pm is benadryl and acetominophen
just benadryl. diphenhydramine straight is the way to go if you want to do that, because the dosage in standard tylenol pm contains the tylenol part and you do not want to end up taking more than the recommended dose as it will kill your liver. If you need to sleep using benadryl, justin, take benadryl. Or, go buy doxylamine succinate (unisom) - it works better.
or try melatonin ... but that doesn't always work.

the problem I have with these types of things is I gotta keep upping the dosage to fall asleep. That is why I have "coffee" ;) it's teh best for insomnia but we won't discuss this on a public forum

Ambien ftw. That stuff is like a sleep train running your ass over. When I was in the Navy they prescribed me this for a sleeping problem I was having. The doctor said "Once you take these, don't make any plans. And make sure to tell your supervisor that you might be late to work for a couple days." I had no idea. First night my insomnia held strong and it took maybe 2 hours for the Ambien to fight it off and put me down. And I ended up sleeping for 11 hours, through my alarm which shuts off after an hour of going off. The next night, I decided to just take them, watch a show on tv and lay down, I slept for another 11 hours and woke up late for work again. If you need to sleep, they make damn certain you sleep. And god help the person that has to try to wake you up before the drug wears off.

Aren't those the pills that can make you sleepwalk? ;) Pill is the easy way out, with unknown long term consequences. I undestand that there might be cases where the pill is justified, but I personally I never had to go that way, since easy lifestyle adjustments often help. Like shutting down my laptop few hours before going to sleep, not eating late, reading some work-related boring book, getting an hour nap during the day, cutting back on working out etc.

I used to try to imagine that I was back in my freshman science class, and my annoying teacher was reading the book out loud .... that USED to work but it's been years since I've even heard that person's voice.

    Sleep? what's that?

Oh boy! Sleep! That's where I'm a viking!

I usually go to bed around 1 and if it's really bad, fall asleep around 5am.

Yes I have done that, but it messes everything up. I've had this problem since I was a pre-teen - developed when I was 12 or so. I'm 25 now. I've been to doctors and whatever. I think it has something to do with the high dosage of Ritalin I was prescribed in elem. school and took for about 6 years. Everything went all wacky after that.

It's not THAT big of a deal, I just get really tired once in a while. It usually doesn't get bad unless I don't have much to do during the day ;)

Didn't realize you guys had it so bad.
Once I got on track, it was easy to stay on that track. But getting there was the issue. I mentioned what worked for me. Hope you guys find what works for you.

    SAME HERE.

That ritalin and ADD/ADHD crap they put me on made me not be able to sleep for years. Been off it for many years, and now all I do is sleep. I need to get at least 8-10 hours of sleep a night or I feel just groggy and nearly drunk all day. Not the happy drunk, either.

got a bit of "rest" - meaning I half-assed my way through about 4 hours of sleep.

    This sucks.

Yeah, it hasn't been this bad in years, but I'll live I am sure ;) At least I know I'll be passing out sometime within 24 hours - probably for the required 8 - unlike poor curly who got less than 10hrs in a whole week ...

I've never agreed with the use of Ritalin and now I can see that my fears were justified. Drugs for kids... boo.

Thankfully my kids are pretty tame so I don't see any teachers recommending these drugs to make it easier to teach the rest of their kids.

As for you guys with insomnia: I'm sorry. Last week I spent 3 or 4 days where I got a sum total of about 4 hours sleep. I was a mess. Nothing could make me sleep and nothing could make me feel awake. It was 4 days of an alternate reality.

I was on 20 mg time released ritalin twice a day for 4 years
and on top of that I had to take a 5mg tablet twice a day
so uhm that's what ... 50mg of ritalin a day?

it started off at 10 - when I was 9 and in 4th grade ... then up to 20 the next year... and then they came out with the TIME RELEASED stuff and my mom was like "wooooooooooooow" .. and the dosages kept going up and up. Nobody ever dreamed that maybe the whole damn curriculum was boring to me ... no. But that was always the problem.

I can see where it may be able to help some people - adults though, those drugs should not be given to children. You're basically making your kids become speed addicts for the rest of their lives. The feeling is great ... omg .. if I take a 5mg now (I had some prescribed last year - a recurrance of "ADD" wasn't the problem though) - I fly for hours and hours. I can't even imagine taking that 50mg dosage again. I can't imagine kids being put on stuff like Adderall - which is WORSE than ritalin.

I ended up in a huge fight with my mom at age 14 in which I took the bottle she had just bought that day, and flushed all of it. I never was 'forced' to take anything again if I didn't ask for it first.
