Yeap that is right Sprint will be carring the new Iphone 5 which gets released in October 2011. Guess all of Sophie and I's rants and other statements, (which were left with Sprint customer service) like we will be leaving sprint because we want the Iphone, actually got addressed. GO Team Sophie and Dean
You actually ranted at a carrier because a hardware vendor didn't contract their hardware to be used by that carrier. You do realize that Sprint doesn't have a say in what 3rd party hardware is offered right? It is up to the hardware vendor to provide hardware that is compatible with the carrier network. If apple wanted to sell sprint iphones they would make compatible hardware and propose it to Sprint. This was an apple call not a sprint call.
Well no... We just have hated sprint phones and all the trouble we have hade with the numerous models that we have had... Many of our friends have I phone's and they have never made statements like "I just want to throw this piece of out the window." so yes we did tell the reps that we were thinking of leaving sprint because we want a device that doesn't suck (aka Iphone). And so my question is now... If I owned a bussiness and my clints are asking/ leaving my bussiness for a competitors service/ product that I may not be able to get... As a bussiness owner would I not want to lobby the maker/ provider of this service/ product??? And if I was the 3rd largest cell phone provider... would I not want to PAY to obtain the device that has boosted my competitors sales. Apple wouldn't care if I wanted sprint to carry the Iphone they would just tell me to pick another service(no $ out of thier pocket). Sprint on the other hand would lose $165 a month just from us... so in other words GO TEAM SOPHIE AND DEAN
I never understood the whole debate "android is better than iPhone" and vice versa. They are phones, people are always going to like different things. But when people start insulting each other over preference I just laugh at how trivial it is.
I dont care either way, I just dont want to hear about the ****ing Iphone anymore, ever, "ZOMG THERE IS A NEW IPHONE COMING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Who the F cares, its a phone.
The main reason behind being able to get the iphone on most (more likely all) network providers is because apple is losing its ass to android phones. I can get a android phone on any carrier and switch carriers and all my android stuff will still be with my account. I may also have to change phones, but with android that is pretty trivial. And the more you embrace google, the easier everything gets. When I jumped carriers and phones, my new phone was up and running with all my apps in less than 30 minutes without even touching a computer. Hell, by time I drove home my new phone was already updated with all my info/apps, I just needed to setup my homescreen/desktop. Then you can add in the whole service debate. Some places get great at&t service and some places get great (insert other carrier here) service. Personally, I have never had a issue with at&t other than it is expensive. I jumped to T-mo. As soon as the sgs2 gets released or the nexus prime (if on at&t), I am jumping back. T-mo is by far the worst carrier service ever. Basically by time I got outside the 694/494 loop I have either edge or no service. Up 35 to duluth edge at best. North of duluth on 61, no service. St. could to the cities on 94, edge at best, most times no service. But with the same token, there is no way in the world I would have at&t if I lived in vegas. I spent a whole weekend with next to nothing for service but our friends t-mo was 4g the whole time. Russ
Russ, I don't think it is an entirely accurate statement to say any one operating system is getting burned up by any other. Certainly Android's market share has increased sharply as of late, but Android populates a much larger segment of the smartphone market, ranging from the crappy free phones up to the nice ones. Also, current smartphone market penetration is only 35% of all phones, so this is not a race between vendors yet, it is still very much a race by the carriers to get the general public to fork over money for data plans. Both of the dominant platforms offer an awesome experience in my opinion. I am not an apple fanboy, I am a mobile app developer so I work with both platforms every day. My personal phone is an iphone though, and I think I will eventually switch to windows phone 7 (once it becomes relevant) if I do switch. Jumping from one iphone to another is completely seamless, but it does still involve a computer (for now, not sure if icloud fixes that). When I switched from one iphone to another a year and a half ago, everything was exactly how it was on the phone, down to the WIFI network passwords. All of the contents of each app's documents folder is transferred as well, meaning any data the apps had stored locally gets moved, something that android does not currently do. Good developers work around this by storing important data remotely, but there are cases where apps store a lot of content locally as well. For most of us techies, the apple walled-in ecosystem leaves something to be desired, but for the general public who are sick of their home computers being eaten alive by spyware, it seems like it is exactly what they want. Even though there are more android handsets out there, I still develop for iOS first and android second, because people spend more money in the apple app store. Agreed 100% on ATT, I love the service. I also have a 21% discount from my old employer, so it brings them about in line with the others (maybe not quite down to t mobile prices).
I just went from a Blakberry Curve 8530, to the Galaxy S2. I absolutely love this phone. Definitely worth it!
I picked up my Galaxy s2 for $99 shipped. I can hardly wait for the hacking community to start getting their hands on them. They already have a pretty decent CM7 running on it, but I would rather wait for a less "hacky" way of getting root and unlocking it. Russ
Actually, it was a Sprint call. Apple went to each carrier with it's first iPhone and every single one turned them down because Apple wanted a cut of the ongoing profits and control of the hardware/software. They finally landed ATT and part of the deal was exclusivity. That's why you didn't see iPhone on any other carrier the first 4 years.
Starting with iOS 5 there is no tie to a pc for anything. Activation is online via the phone. If you lose your phone you simply buy a new one, enter your apple user id and password and all of your settings, docs and info get installed automatically from iCloud. That's pretty pimp. Hate ATT. I drop calls like no ones business. Sprint here I come.
^ I'm quite opposite I rarely have issues. I actually get signal at the warehouse I work while ppl with sprint get none.
Steve Jobs knew the world was going to end so he fake his death and went on his apple rocket to mars.
Any of these phones would be a upgrade for me. We have a unlimited data plan thru sprint and 3 blackberries. I will be getting a new phone no matter what. As far as ones available for sprint its down to these for me. Galaxy S II iPhone4S Nexus Prime--- October 11 they will announce this what it has and what carriers will get it. Rumors all over but will wait till the 11th and decide.
I would disagree with that statement, the 4s has a dual core , better GPU. HSPA+. as well as some other things. Aesthetically it's hasn't changed however. I'd say samsung galaxy s 2 or iPhone 4s.
Better as far as what? Processing speed? Ease of use? It's all preference. Not everyone is gonna like the same stuff. I personally hate how sloppy/laggy android feels. No matter the processor speed you can't overcome the way the OS was designed.
This is true, running on a virtual machine is a tough pill to swallow compared to native code, but with each new gen of mobile processors it is less of a big deal. Battery life is still not a contest, unless you are always disabling bluetooth / wifi / 4g and using advanced task killer on android, but all that really matters is that you get through the day on a charge.
Galaxy S II and iPhone 4s are both pretty close spec wise for me and I cant 4g on sprint so. Galaxy has bigger screen but i think less resolution. I still like bigger but that is just me. They postponed the announcement for the Nexus Prime or what ever they will call it because of Jobs death pretty strange concidering. Will have to wait and see what the Nexus Prime is. From what I hear internet rumors wise it will stomp both those phones plus comes with ice cream sandwich. Of course those said rumor mills were right on with the new bigger iphone 5 so. Guess I have waited this long.
I like the galaxy S II quite a bit, I keep waiting for the big dominant android phone to make itself know. I thought it would be the evo, but the crappy HTC battery life prohibited that, I wonder if the nexus prime or galaxy S II could be it. Still waiting on a dominant android tab - anyone pre-order the kindle fire? No 3G was a deal breaker for me, but $200 is damn compelling.
Oh what's this? The iPhone 4s benchmarked better than the galaxy s 2? Hmmmmmm http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/benchmarks-clock-iphone-4s-a5-cpu-at-800mhz-show-major-gpu-upg/
Back to the original post, I honestly wish AT&T would still be the only one with the rights to the iPhone. Then all the apple lovers would stay on a network I don't use. I would rather my data service not be slowed down because millions of users switch to the network to have the newest Apple product that will be outdated by the next iPhone in 3-5 months. Why is it to me that Apple seems to already have the next iPod/iPad/iPhone already in production/pre-release when they release the current "hot" item. Release one new item, wait for sales just to start trailing off of the i"*", and then release the newer "updated" model. Money games at it's finest.
It's the same thing every car maker does, they release a new one after a year. When u think about one product for a year isn't that much.(Per gadget, ie: iPhone iPad etc.) Compared to Samsung for instance, they release the same phone that's slightly different cosmetically, slap a new name on it and call it new. They release 6-12 new phones a year that are usually based on the same 3 phones in reality. So basically any company that manufactures phones is playing the "money" game. Something else to consider, when u sell a million pre orders on day one, you might want to start production way ahead of the release date.
Last thing you want to do is release a product that is already outdated. The reality of it is Apple probably has 2-3-4 generations of iphones in a alpha/beta stage. You already know that people are working on quad core SOC's, you already know that everyone is going to have a LTE network, you know that everyone is trying to make your cell phone be a "be all" device. So at this point, you better make sure you are getting at least those items taken care of while trying to create the next big thing. Personally, my SGS2 is more phone that I will ever need. At this point, unless it is your main gaming machine, most people don't even need a dual core phone. Think about it, I have more computing power in my cell phone than most people have in their PC. At this time, for me, I wish phone makers would concentrate on batteries. I don't mind only getting a day worth of heavy use out of my phone, but it would be nice to get 4-5 days of heavy use out of my phone. Battery tech really needs to catch up to phone/tablet/device tech. Russ
This! Relying on a company to make an extended battery which changes the physical size of your device, and only adds a few hours of life, is a joke. People are not always in a room with an outlet, or in a place with a 12v power socket. If you are on a long flight, and don't own an iPod or iPad to watch a movie on, and you are trusting your smartphone battery to last... you are out of luck. Watching a movie, even with mobile network and gps shut off, you are lucky to make it all the way through!
Maybe im old fashioned, but I don't see the win in your argument. Are you saying you tie up or constrain your "victims" so that you can blow them? That's what you're going with?
I've watched two movies back to back on my iPhone and used it the rest of the day without a recharge. Asking for a better battery is only part of the issue. What you are most likely seeing is inefficient code and over spec'd hardware. A prime example of this is the laptop industry and the strides made the past few years in battery run time.
Lets make stuff more and more retard friendly so nobody ever has to think! I love apple products they let even senior citizens text and drive as the same time.
Tried the new voice command LOVED IT... it was the 1st voice activated program that has impressed me. FYI... It seems ad if we all hate technology but where would our Subarus' be without it... Horse and buggies
