I was wondering if the 06 or 07 STi 6 disc changer had a way to hook up a I-POD or something like it directley to the CD changer, like a auxilery plug? Or if anyone has a after market device that they use that works well. I have a stock indash 6 disc changer in my 05 Sti, wanted something for road trip.
I think that aside from getting a new head unit you will have to just use the FM transmitter for the ipod. I have the alpine w/ipod connector and love it, I would sell it if anyone is interested....it would come with a forrester silver din pocket and the harness also.
Sure is. http://www.jazzyengineering.com/ . I've had the iPod pro model since I bought the car and it sounds phenomenal. Don't waste your time with fm transmitters.
It's called R&D and knowhow. The board is the only thing he makes and costs 40 bones. The rest of the stuff in the "kits" you can purchase from a lot of online vendors but won't save any real money. Compared to anything else out there it's money well spent.
why would u spend tons of money to install it...plain simple....get a cassette adapter and hook right up to the phone plug...bomb right there...save 100 of ballers......that's what i did...
The newer 6-disc changers don't have the tape player anymore. I don't know what year they switched though.
This thing has four resistors, four capacitors, and three connectors. The most expensive part of it is probably the headphone jack.
^^^ yea you are looking at 2 or 3 bucks at the most at bulk rates and almost no engineering expense I am betting. All the info for an I-pod interface is on the web. Bet it took them a couple of days to come up with that.
I took one semester of electrical engineering design and I could make that thing pretty easily.....its still a cool idea, just too much $$$
Yea I am just finishing my last semester of my EE degree. If it works and your willing to spend the money then I say go for it.... just let the rest of us see it so we can see what they did that makes them think it is worth that kind of money.
Because not everyone can solder well , and people will pay it. It's not about actual value, it's about market value.
i'm an ee graduate too and i don't have the time to figure it out so i pay, that's why i have a job so i can buy things to enjoy them - granted the satisfaction of building it would be fun i could analyze it before i put it in so other people can build it though i think diagrams for $10 "research" fee would work
$100 plus some hacking into the stock deck and having to play a silent cd and all that stuff or just spend $200+ and buy an Alpine with full display interface and control....... I'm all for the Alpine (or sony/pioneer/other)
Exactly. There are people who will pay $600 for an AP and then another $500 for somebody to put a custom map on it.
That was the exact argument I was going to use. Cobb's price is ridiculous and Clark's isn't much better (in my eyes) yet people still spend 1000+ bucks for something they could do for under 100 themselves. Why? R&D and knowhow. It goes a long way.
