a 2002 2.5 RS shortblock!!!!!! it needs new pistons ( it was warranty for piston slap) so i have a project engine now!..anyone ever put 2.2 heads on a 2.5? also, anyone know where i would go to get my ecu reflashed for the 2.5? thanks!

WHAT!!!! how come you get all the goodies. are you gonna biuld the block? ie: aftermarket rods pistons sleeves(hehehe). i have no idea what putting 2.2l heads on a 2.5 would do. i heard on nasioc that putting 2.2l head on a 1.8 will drop compression enough for you to push 16psi (not exactly sure on the number but it was over 10 and close to this)

    this will be cool.

i think you should get me some freebies

putting your 2.2L heads on the 2.5rs block will raise your compression....from 10:1 to maybe 11's ratio....

how about timing belt...stock 2.5 sohc or stock 2.2? how are the 2.2 heads for flow compared to the 2.5 heads...rather i mean how much HP would i lose by putting them on, i know they will increase the c/r but that doesnt mean they flow better...

Just put your heads on the 2.5L shorblock. You'll get like a little above 11:1 CR. This means some more power and more low end torque. Unless you just want to rebuild it with forged crank and pistons, but then again the walls aren't very supportive for boost. So if you stay NA, you can get by. If you do plan to run boost, you can, but you need the lower CR pistons.

Do you want boost? OR do you want to stay NA?

well just putting the heads onto the engine wont do him no good. He needs pistons since it has piston slap. Get some forged/stock pistons in and slap on your 2.2 heads. you'll get quite alot of power doing that since the part where it ignites in the heads are smaller than that of the 2.5L. you'll get a higher compression and thus more power/torque. there's a thread on RS25.com telling about the many types of hybrids(ex:2.5L block with 2.2L heads) you can do and what to use to make them efficient.

im staying n/a fuji :D i'll eventually have an RS-L yes i'll be getting new pistons, probably just updated stockers, they have a new kind with some sort of coating on the lower part of the pistons to deal with the slap...im still concerned with the computer situation

you should be able to just run a 2.5 ecu if the 2.2l uses the same type of heads(SOHC/DOHC) even then, i dont think you will get as much power, or very good driveabiliy unless you have some type of fuel control, and prob timing control too.

either way i think you need some type of fuel/timing control so you may as well keep your 2.2 and put some piggy back on.

    just my opinion

well, im not just gonna throw a free ej25 away..im gonna make it work, i want to stay n/a, nothing against turbo, but its just more my style, and its not the norm! I was thinking of running my stock 2.2 computer, with some sort of piggy back, because im pretty sure that i'll need an entire wiring harness if i were to switch to a 2.5 ecu..its a work in progress

it might just run off of your 2.2l ecu. i was reading some crazy ecu stuff over on i-club. stuff liek people using the 1.8l ecu to run an 2.5 RS-t.

if you're just switching out the shortblock, i dont think you'll need to change the ECU since you're still using the same engine but different displacement. Maybe reset the ECU so it learns a new fuel ratio? I could be wrong so correct me if im wrong.

You're just swapping the shorblock. No need to run a ECU. BUT you can have an advantage if you run the S-AFC (Apexi air fuel controller). Tune it with wideband 02 and you're all set. And since you're just getting pistons, the stock ones are fine.

Now you can get Delta cams and you'll be set. You're fine with those grind cams if you stay with stock valve springs. They don't go too well with harder/stiffer valve springs in a long term reliebility, IMO.
