    I really want a Miata.:eek3:

    They're cheap, easy to mod. Already great handling out of the box. Plus they're cheap;)

    They're looking more and more fun by the day.

    Course I'd keep the WRX for my winter car and my gf has the Durango. So I wouldn't be loosing out on any functionality.

    But, for the money. The Miata is looking like a better platform to sink money into. Turbo the little guy and it will be just as fast if not faster than my WRX. Handle better in its stock form and probably much better with some cheap upgrades.

    Plus, just a fun little car.

    Sooooo tempting.

    I have a 91 Miata

    the pre-94 miatas are great, get a little better milage and are easily underestimated. I get about 30MPG going 70 MPH plus, and it doesn't take premium fuel. There are some pretty trick naturally aspirated kits for miatas.

    Yeah and looking at the parts. Everything is pretty cheap compaired to WRX/STI counterparts.

    Just reading up on them for now.

    Was looking at a PPG gearset for the WRX. But, I could buy a Miata for that much and have some little track/weekend fun car like you say.

    personally i dont think mazda's are junk at all. molly's 6s handles very nice stock and the stock brakes are the same if not better than my stoptech rotors, axis pads, ss lines, motul fluid.

    i'm a little fuzzy on the ford association, but i think the majority of the major parts of the car are mazda right?

    Well, you're partially right. It was the MS6 and I stated distinct things I didn't like about it.;)

    Justin - They have Ford Motors and share alot of the Ford parts bin. Including brakes I believe. Suprised you think they are better than your Stoptech's.

    As far as the Miata. I'm looking at a 93'-94' so I think it is more Mazda and less Ford back then.:biggrin:

    Actually it would be more accurate to say that a for was mazda related, Mazda builds and designs most of ford's manual transmissions. A few cars ahve been shared but Mazda parts are more likey seen on a ford than ford parts on a Mazda. there are more miatas in auto x than just about any other car. sure they're a chick car, but what could be better than beating someone with a chick car, sorta like your car being beat by a girl!

    Ford owns mazda, as I am sure you all know.

    a mazda pick up and a ford ranger, same thing minus different badges... as far as i know

    Ford doens't really own Mazda

    Ford only owns 33% of Mazda, I'm not quite sure if that qualifies as a controling share. I think a one of the following is joint venture two blong to Ford and one to Mazda.

    probe = 626
    ranger = B2000
    escape = tribute
    explorer = navajo

    in the autocross community we call buying a miata "giving up"

    becuase its the cheapest, fastest easiest to drive car there are so many people who have defected to them over the years. Theyre a great car to race in, but only if you're under 6 foot 2 =[

    Hehe. Well cheap, fast and easy is a quality I normally preffer in my women:laugh:

    But I happen to like it in these cars also. I haven't driven one yet. But another online buddy from another forum has one. He raves about driving it. Doesn't autoX, just fun drives.

    But for $4k and about 2x that in mods and I can have a much funner car than my WRX.

    I dunno. After I finally go stage 2 with the WRX I just don't see any point in dumping more money into it. Its too hard and too expensive to get big power out of it reliably. I'd rather have a fun summer car AND the WRX.

    Before I was looking at the PPG gears and maybe a built USDM STi SB, ej22t or a V7 STi block. But its still alot of money for really not that much more power. This is just seeming like a better and better idea to go with.

    Yep, but you know they are using the better parts of the two, not the worse.... the partnership is a good thing. I would love a miata, but I just can't fit in one even with the seat all the way back.... they need to make a tall people's miata.

    Hmm, I'm 6'2 I better test drive one and see if I can even fit! But, I could fit in my 90 Celica and that was pretty cramped as far as interiors go. So hopefully.

    Yea, I can't fit in miata's and s2000's.... although I like both cars, I just don't fit in them. Having my knees pushing against the steering wheel with the seat all the way back isn't my idea of fun. I was suprised my Impreza had enough leg room for me.

    i'm pretty much 6' and my head touchs the softop and on sharp bumps I hit my head, the hardtop has about an inch more clearance. its a crappy daily driver for the winter or when it rains because you can't have the top down. I personaly think the 1.6 has the 1.8 beat hands down. considering that the 1.6 cranked to 14btdc gets about 31 MPG and the 1.8 stock is lucky to get better than 25, or so I am told. It is pretty impressive to see the rigidity of the beat old miata is still greater than that of my WRX. If I didn't need to have a couple of car seats I might consider ditching the WRX in favor of a new Miata. Although the AWD is sure nice for the winter.
