I usually buy myself a NERF gun for Christmas, wrap it and mark it sent from Santa. Then proceed to terrorize the family all day.

Our boss got us Nerf guns as a xmas present at our team holiday party so we brought them into work and started a war. One of the other managers felt left out so he got that Nerf sniper rifle and sets it on the file cabinet next to the door in his office. When he hears us start feuding with the Nerf guns he opens his door a crack and snipes heads that pop up above the cube walls. I didn't think Nerf darts were very accurate but damn if he isn't good at it. As to the sentry system you can buy a cheap webcam, motion-tracking, USB/wireless missile launcher for your computer. One of our systems engineers has been playing with a facial-recognition software he found at the CUDA dev site to make the missile launcher aware of targets and designate them friend of foe. It doesn't track nearly as well as the paintball sentry but it doesn't have all those expensive servos either.
I've never done the battery ones, but ive used the internetz to tell me how to put much heavier springs, purchase better darts, file (port and polish) the air channels etc. on the little 6 shooter and the sniper. Now the hurt, and my friends switched to airsoft to keep up.
