So I get a call from my wife today....the Saturn has broken down and she is stuck on a freeway bypass and is to afraid to get out of the car. So, me being the lovely doting husband that I am grab my keys and tearing out of work trying to get to her and my daughter as fast as I can.

Get there and get them into the car. I see what happens when I starrt the car...starts just fine. Thats strange I thought she said she lost all power and the sound was similar to when the serpentine belt snapped on the Subaru.

Opened the hood and there is the serpentine belt spinning happily away. Oh no I think it must be th timing belt (kick myself hard in the head for even considering that since the engine was running.)

I stick my head underneath the car only to see a pool (read as lake) of transmission fluid sitting on the ground. More oh crap and other lovely words ensued. Call my buddy to bring his tow truck down. As we load it up onto the truck we hear this "clank" and down the bed of the truck rolls this gear from out of the car.

Waiting for the report from the mechanic on Monday but they think it's going to need a new transmission. But, I may get away with simply having a snapped axle. I'm hoping for the latter.

But it served as a good point to me. Her Saturn now needs to go. She loves her little car and it really is an EXCELLENT car. But I can't feel happy with my wife driving around in a 10year old car with over 100K miles on it. I have no issues with driving my 170K subaru clunker and I wouldn't really care if I was driving her car. But I'm not letting her drive it anymore.

So, I'm going to be leasing her a new Subaru. We are settled on the Impreza for sure. But she wants a wagon with a moonroof but you just can't get them. So, I'm debating on if I get the wagon with a few options and a 5spd or get the Special Edition package in a sedan. She has ALWAYS wanted a moon roof.

What do you guys think? Sedan with rood or wagon?

Well, I'm pretty new to Subaru dealerships but basically my manager said that the Subaru plan sucks and that I can get it for invoice. Anything I need to know?

I would go with the sedan, becuse you have a wagon. Unless both of you need to carry lots of stuff around.

hmmm, thats a fair point. Although part of the reason we want the wagon is so we don't have to drive my 19mpg OB on road trips. But perhaps you might have something there Matt. We won't need the wagon for EVERY road trip.

    2.5i

Trust me, my wife doesn't need a WRX. She scares me enough as it is with the Saturn let alone increasing engine size and mounting a hairdryer on the side of it.

    2.5i.

Its faster stock than a well modded 02-05 2.5RS (excellent new intake manifold design, equal length header stock now, AVCS), has a better interior.

might want to consider a sedan though...

damn thing has better options than my WRX.

here is an excellent resource for tracking all options etc.:

So what the hell are you asking us for?

    No no, I kid...

I thought the new wagons had a moon roof option... I guess that must be just the wrx wagon.

Ever thought of a mazda 3?? I think those are sharp, and probably quite a bit cheaper.

You should get the wagon for her. Then, when you change cars, move to a sedan. Then you have a new, good reliable road trip car in the interim.
