There's gotta be some ice fishermen and women on here. How's everyone been doin? I'll start with some pics. View attachment 5522
Wow, I'm dumb. Just realized my topic is "Ice season 2013-13" I swear it said "Ice season 2012-13" and auto correct swooped in and changed it to make me look like I is dumb. Lol
Hahaha...it's a gift! And i just read your edited post, it's been a rough morning! Lmao. We all have them!
Headed out dark and early in the mornin to rip some lips! Crappies will be targeted, but there is always a chance of a walleye or northern where I'm headed. Stay tuned for pics
And today brings...... Crappie goodness! Friday mornin trip to Brainerd area for some more pan fish. And next Friday morning bright and early a walleye fishing trip to Red Lake is planned, with a possibility of moving to Lake Of The Woods if things are slow on Red.
I have a cousin who runs a guide service out of Warroad. Ice fishing... well, fishing, period... isn't really my thing, but we're headed up there next weekend.
I had planned on taking Paulasarus and his kids out tomorrow, but we bumped it to Sunday. The forcast of 30-40 mph wind is jsut too much for the Command Post. And I want to let the ice re-freeze before I get out there with a bunch of kids. We had our 1st tournament of the Season last Sunday on upper Prior. The bite was TOUGH due to some kind of hatch. Biggest Crappie out of 32 guys was 1lb.
Well had you saved them tires for me, we would have had a chance to meet, and I may have invited you to come with some time
Nice pail mule! Paul and I hit Waconia for a few hours on Sunday am. I only drilled 4 holes and we set up and got the heater going so it wasn't a hard core session. We caught a bunch of little ones (Perch, Crappie, Sunnies) but we had a good time.
Nice. Sometimes it's more above getting out and having fun, and not exhausting yourself trying to find the fish. I am getting anxious for Friday to get here to head to Red Lake for the weekend.
Heading to South Dakota on the 2nd weekend in Feb. Should be a blast! We opted for the 3.5 hour drive, instead of the haul up to Lake of the Woods.
Same to you out in Suck Dakota. I sometimes work out there, and thats what we call South Dakota. Because it sucks working out there. Lol!
Thanks!!! We're hauling a guy's King Crow out there and sleeping and eating on the ice both nights, so it's going to be an awesome, cheap trip. 2 portables (one for an out house) 3 augers, 4 guys, a portable fire pit, food, plenty of barleypops. I can't wait. I just realized that I don't think I've ever purchased an out of state fishing license. I was either too young to need one or paid for a charter which covers legality. Wow... What do you do, by the way?
I think you can buy an out of stat license from a MN. License center. Either that or stop at a bait store or gas station in SD and pick one up.
I'm not sure about South Dakota, but North Dakota out of state licenses are around $30 for a year. Cheaper than most states, probably because its hard enough to get people to visit that flat sh!t hole they call a state lol. I am a union Boilermaker, local 647. I build and repair power plants, paper mills, oil refineries, mines, etc..
This is what we brought home, 16 Walleyes between 14" & 19", 5 decent perch. We ate 6 eyes on the ice. Lost a few pigs that broke the line too
I got out today but didn't get onto anything real great - a few little eater Crappie and some 7-8" Perch that all went back. And yes, the gain was all the way down. and also found a place with some monster waxies
Nice, we had some schools come thru over the weekend that lit up our vexi's like that a few times. Friday we had the house set up less then 10 minutes and the bite was on. Slowed down Saturday quite a bit but still got a few good eaters. The cold front really shut em down. Didn't seem to matter what color we used, but jigging wasn't an option, scared the fish away every time. Dead lines were the only thing we caught fish on. Got tired of runnin out the door and getting the tip ups, flags were poppin up like crazy Friday.
Bump! Anyone been out on the hard water lately? I haven't been out much. Helped put on an ice fishing tourney last weekend tho. Some guys I work with and myself, helped organize a contest and all of the proceeds will be donated to the "Wounded Warriors Guide Service", which is a non profit guide service for disabled veterans. It was our first annual, and we had 60 people enter. It was a good time! Had lots of awesome prizes donated. Some buddies of mine are guides, and donated a guided trip, and their time. They gave kids pointers, and even got a couple kids their first fish thru the ice!
Thanks. It is a good feeling to help with something like it. A retiree from work, who is a Vietnam vet, had his 9 year old grand daughter out there, who had never even been on a lake in the winter before. Let alone fish in the winter. My buddy got her a crappie within 10 minutes of bein on the ice for her first time. It was awesome.
Today was one of the most depressing days ever. I lost what would have been a freakin wall hanger walleye. I almost cried lol.
That sucks!!! Where were ya?! The one that got away... SD was freaking awesome - except for being forced out of town by the blizzard. We got there at midnight on Friday morning, fished Friday and Saturday and took off at about 4p on Saturday night. We beat the snow by 20-30 minutes, thank The Lord!!! We limited out on palm-sized Gills, caught 5-6 decent Crappie and found some HUGE Perch. Average perch was right around a Pound. It was a GREAT trip and we'll be running out there next year too. We had a MnPan tournament on Tonka yesterday - most teams came in with their limits - 7 Crappie, 6 Sunnies. Nothing great- biggest Crap was .65, but we had a great bite!
