Is there a such thing as a so-call Police car GPS locater. Meaning you got a radar type screen that show where the police cars is located within a distance around you. Are these kind of device available FS or am I just dreaming? LMK

No, they don't exist. And, uh, what are you doing that makes you want one of these devices?

Just how could someone used GPS to locate police cars? All GPS is, is decently high radio frequencies sent from satellites with a time stamp. The unit does the calculations.

Do you think that police cars have a homing device in them, so on the big screen map down at the station the car shows up as blinking red dots? lol.....

I would be disappointed if they didn't. All of our delivery vehicles across the country can be tracked by GPS in near real-time. Heck I can be tracked the same way using my aGPS-enabled cell phone.

    They actually do.

My uncle is an officer and I have been on a few ride-alongs. I am not sure what software/hardware they are using, but on his Toughbook, he can display where the other cruisers are throughout his patrol area via map. :dunno:

I'm betting they restrict the sale of said software to Law Enforcement personnel only. Anyone want to put $20 bucks on it? However, if EJ20 decided to go become an officer I bet they'd give it to him for free

I bet it's more than software. Probably needs a dongle to help prevent piracy. But then you'd still need secure access to whatever they connect to that reports all of that information.

You would probably have to know the device's ID in the car that you wish to track. GPS is a one way thing, you can't track someone by GPS unless they are transmitting their GPS to you. Yeah, you could track someone by their GPS phone, but you'd have to know what you are looking for. And if they didn't have a signal, you're SOL, because the GPS satellite isn't going to know who or what you are talking about.

And even if you did manage to find a way to get the information you'd need to GPS track cops in real time, you'd likely get baton raped on the spot for having one if a cop pulled you over and saw it in your car.

Actually one could develop these types of things for certain depts if you could haxx0rzzzz the PD signal.
MPD's MDT (mobile data terminals) are quite advanced and do basically tell dispatch where they are (they also have a bunch of other cool features).

However, this would only work with the most advanced depts.

    READ how GPS works.
UNDERSTAND that you need to have a device that receives locations from police cars
UNDERSTAND that they are likely encrypted or they wont be handing out the device ID's to you

Even if you got the device illegally, it isn't some little hand held thing that goes in the car. And if a cop sees it, which they likely will, you will get raped. And even if you DID have this device in your car, you still need to know WHAT you are monitoring. There IS NOT a device that just knows when you turn it on, what police cars are near it. That is all transmitted to the station from a device that has an ID to tell the station what car it is and where it is located. And it doesn't just broad cast this to the world.

You can't even wish this into existance.

I think most of us have stop bothering to argue with you, and I admit that your posts haven't been as bad as before. Don't be upset, would you feel better if I said "old Taras"? You should be happy someone is here to take over your reign.

GPS IS ONE WAY. Meaning, GPS only works by reading signals sent by a satellite.
Tracking by GPS requires a secondary device or subsystem that SENDS the coordinates to another system that tracks it. I've seen systems that do this via a cellular signal. But the tracking systems are closed, meaning the average Joe can't monitor it unless they are on the system that tracks it. The in car system the police use is updated by the server that tracks the information, and you can't just tap into that either.

There is no device you can buy or create that will tell you the location of the police cars in your area. You either have the system (police dept), hack the system (you aren't smart enough to do it, ej20, so don't waste your life trying) or drive/hijack a police car (not your car.)

    Exactly.
If if someone could manufacturer this device, it would be (or quickly made) illegal. The large resources needed to do this would mean it would need to be made by a large corperation like Uniden who wouldn't or some mythical crime organization that exists in caper movies.

Let me put it this way, if you carry an unauthorized scanner, the prosecutor is looking for served jail time. What do you think they'll do with this?
