Hey all, I just wanted to say hi from Chicago. I'm here on a "business" trip over night for some advertising stuff I'm doing with Office Max. The reason I say "business" is because it's more of an after semester school field trip for a select few in the advertising department at my school. We will be going to DDB Chicago and Ogilvy Chicago tomorrow. DDB is doing some Office Max work and five of us students are here to collaborate with them and OM's in house creatives on some new ideas. It's late and we just got back from a fun time in the city. I'll see some of you soon. Best, Noah If you want, you can check out: http://www.officemax.com/ http://www.ddbchi.com/ http://www.ogilvy.com/ http://ogilvychicago.com/
Enjoy Chicago. I work in advertising. I talked to DDB in Chicago when I graduated last year, but it was just far too corporate compared to other agencies. My professor and advisor worked at OM in Chicago for 15 years or so. I just prefer smaller more independent shops. I am telling you man, the small shops are going to take over. Try to check out some of the other shops, Element79 does cool work, Quaker (the oats), Gatorade, etc. When I was talking to DDB they were telling me that an entry level AM position would start at $24k. I thought they were kidding. Couldn't believe it. I had a few more offers come though, ChiatDay LA, working on either Apple or Nissan and then an offer in Minneapolis to work on the Porsche account. I have loved Porsche for years and Minneapolis is a great city, so I moved here last June. Did you do AAF? Are you job hunting? Let me know if you want me to look over your resume. What school are you at? UofM? I met Howard List quite a few times at various conferences around the country. Cool to hear someone else is in the industry.
Noah, if you haven't been to it yet you need to check out the Sears Tower. Also, the Shedd aquarium is pretty neat, and the Museum of Science and Industry kicks royal arse. I love Chicago, I used to go down there on weekends when I was a diver in Green Bay. Have fun!
Well, I'm back. We had a good time there. I didn't have a whole lot of time to spend out and about but it was nice none the less. I'll have to go to the websites of those places you listed. I can't believe they said starting at $24k! No wonder they have so much $$$. I don't know what AAF is. I'm still a student at Minneapolis College of Art and Design AKA MCAD. You must work at CL? I toured that agency last semester. Cool place. I actually talked to Lee a few months ago when I was working on the OfficeMax account and he liked some of my ideas. If you wouldn't mind, I could send you my portfolio once I update it. What exactly do you do? Creative? Account Mgr? I'm not looking for a job yet. I have two years to go. I will be interested in an internship though soon. Yeah, I am learning a great deal about the industry. I love it! We'll have to talk sometime at Firestone.
The only tourist thing I got to do was go to the Institute of Arts. It was a sprint but was amazing. I can't wait to go back!
Yes, she mentioned that she had a good conversation with you. Maybe I'll see you at Firestone this Friday. I had a great time thanks!
I don't really hang out at Firestone...I would be "that guy" as I don't have the Saabaru anymore. However, once you get your book cleaned up let me know. I can help you get it to the right person. Are you doing art direction or writing...I am assuming art since you are at MCAD. Also, not sure if you knew but Dynapar's aunt works at CL she is director of Creative Services. She is an awesome lady...ever since I drove the beer cart during the company golf outing her and I have been pretty tight. I do account management. Trust me it isn't as bad as it is made out to be.
Oh, you are that guy...lol. Yeah, I'm thinking more creative director but, I'm learning more about writing and am not too bad at it. I didn't know that about Dynapar's aunt. That's cool, I bet I met her actually. No, the woman that I met and gave us the tour of DDB was an account Mgr. It sounds really cool! Shmooz the clients (us in this case) keep things in order, make certain arrangements etc. I have some time to make a decision. I have to see what I like/am good at. Besides, it can't be too bad if you get to test drive a never before seen Porsche!
