I thought that some of you would appreciate this. A couple buddies and I are heading to a weekend volleyball tournament in Wisconsin, so I put on the basket and started to laod up.
Looking good Ted! Grill...check! LOL. Also, if Jason put that on his WRX, he would melt your Rubbermaid.
Looks like you're read to go there. I would appreciate some feed back on that trailer, I am considering getting one for transporting tires for track events. Thnx
 yeah, throw some charcoal in the grill before you leave and you'll have nice embers when you arrive!
how does this effect your steering and rear tire clearance? This is nice because unlike a yakima rocket box that goes on top (I have one) it doesnt seem to cause drag resulting in decreased mileage. I noticed a 2 MPG drop with my rocketbox on top on the free way, have you seen any? That also doesnt include just how much extra the yakima box cost initially, plus roof rail adapters, and the fact the trailer hitch can be used to pull well...a small trailer. smart! I'm assuming you have a solution for your gear in the case of inclimate weather? I like your setup, and i know you've posted it before, this is just the first time ive gotten around to asking questions!
I originally got it to haul my little portable ice house too and from the lake in the winter, but it's not big enought so I am re-designing one for winter use. It's a pretty good size for hauling junk around, I think if it were any bigger, people would overload it. It works quite well for hauling tires. A couple wratchet straps and you're good to go. Not that I have experienced yet. I guess we'll see today. I am going to put a chunk of a thin thermal barrier on the outside of the tote near the exaust just incase. This will be my first fairly long trip using it. We're heading to the dells for the Waupaca tournament and party. They have live bands, all you can drink for 10 bucks, food, camping... Should be a good time. Steering is fine, but it does squat the back end a little bit. I've got a tent, an EZ up, charcoal, air matress, a case of water, a case of Gatorade and a ton of ice back there now, so there is some weight. When you hit a bump you definately know that it's back there as it kind of feels like someone is standing on the bumper bouncing up and down just a little bit. I'll keep track of my mielage and let you know but I don't think it is going to affect it at all simply due to size and location. I think that having the AC blasted as I definately will have today is going to suck more fuel than having the basket. All the stuff I have back there can get wet (cooler, tote, grill, EZ up, camp chairs), the rest of the stuff is in the trunk.
I just got back. Turns out that the exhaust does get rather warm and I had to adjust things back there. I got to minneapolis to pick up a buddy and part of the rubbermaid tote had melted. I forgot about the thermal barrier, whoops. So, if you're hauling tires back there on a hot day, you are going to want something over the one(s) close to the exhaust.
