I'm not the only one unimpressed with the new Impreza

I barely could tell the difference between the #1 ugly car(ford focus) and the 08' Impreza.j/k I hated it from day one uke: and won't be changing my mind like I did on the 06'. The 08' has gay written all over it.

I thought the same thing about the 06 when it came out but now I'm driving one and I love it. I drove a 08 impreza loaner from Mtka. and I hated it. It was ugly and didn't have any kind of sporty feel to it at all. I know it was a base model but there isn't anything I can think of that looked or felt "improved" over my 04 or my 06.

 

I don't think the new TL is fitting on that list. It may be a bit to get used to, and kinda looks like the new malibu, but it isn't all that bad. the base impreza is pretty awful though.

 

The Sedan is poop.

 

I dont get how anyone could call it ugly, its not ugly at all, its just too plain and blah, To quote a great 80s movie "its not ugly, its just....void"

Because a comparo between a P1 and a base trim NA car is clearly fair.

Not that I'm standing up for the 08's, mind you.

 

I bought my 07 wagon in October, when the '08 were available. I test drove both and really prefered the '07. The '08s don't come with alloy wheels (just hub caps), painted door handles (wtf???? are they owned by GM now?) or sport seats.

I also felt that the visibility and "feel" for the car is much less in an '08 - when you drive it, you can't see the corners of the car as well and sit lower in the car, giving you the feeling of driving a tank. Furthermore, the suspension is definitely softer and doesn't have that nice sporty feel anymore. The seats are softer, which is nicer for the general public and even for people like us on long car trips, but don't hug you at all and suck when doing a little 'spirited' driving.

Conclusion: the base model impreza is a step down from a new base model mazda 3 or even honda civic. Sad. If it wasn't for the all-wheel-drive, there'd be NO redeeming qualities of the car (except the cool back end on the wagon version, which i do like).

I will say this: When Subaru first came out with the late model impreza 02+ back when, I HATED the back end on the sedans. It looked fat and ugly. I didn't fit with the sleek look of the rest of the car or the nice bugeye front end. Even adding a spoiler didn't seem to help much. I've since accepted the back end of these sedans, but they're far from my favorite. That's why I got a wagon and would only get a wagon in these models.

 

They used to be, but now its Toyota. I think it switched over after the 08's were set in stone though.

I'm in the same boat... I had a choice between getting my 06 5MT, a 07 4EAT, or the 08 4EAT/sillyshift (all of these 2.5i's). The new car just didn't feel right (too floppy), and I really wanted to get a manual... easy choice.

the coolest impreza ever made looks like a camry/eagle summit in base form. They're finally starting to make up for the bugeye uke:

 

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but that was quite possibly the dumbest statement ever made!

Bugeye's rock, and that's that! I personally like the new look (the 5-doors look better than the sedans) and the STi's are a great looking car. Everyone hates that Subaru went away from the flared fenders, but they overlook the fact that the new body is wider than the previous body's, and therefore they felt the flared fender look was un-needed.

 

Think the STI is ok also there is an outback that I like. The rest arent any good.

case in point. opinion. I think GCs are the only imp hotter than the '08s. followed by hawkeyes, blobeyes, and bugeyes in last (what can I say, I think they're butt ugly).


But no imp can compete with the sheer sexxxxiness of the BE legacies.


sure, when it comes down to performance, much of that goes out the window. But even then, the GCs are the lightest, so they still dominate.

 

didn't Subaru release the 4 door in North America only?
