Well I just opened my guage cluster again so another member can see what's up. THen I went over the back again so it's redder now. hahah REDDER!

I'm pretty sure you got it all apart and know how to get at it, ya? 2 screws under the overhang of the dash, pull that out by holding the bottem of that piece. Then if you have to, pull the lower dash part so it unclips, then use a PHILLPS screw driver and undo the two bottem screws from each corner of the guage cluster, then of course there's the one up top in the middle as well. Unclips the wires connectors in the back, far left, middle, and far right. You want to pull the clear cover out first so the whole clutster comes out easier (at least for me) by unclipping it from the sides (just press into the guage clutster on the clips). After you have it out then simply pull it out as shown in the pics.

Now you have something like this
    [IMG]

unclip the front black piece, it will come off in 2 pieces.

Locate these center part where the speedometer is on the backside of the guage cluster. open up the 2 hook-look-a-likes.

You will then push the center with something after. Be sure to unhook the hooks on BOTH RPM and SPEEDOMETER before pushing through the back with a small screwdriver.

both piece will pop out as shown here
    [IMG]

This is how mine looks like when I first did it.

Now to the clock. Take a tooth pick or maybe your finger nail and lightly pry the clock open. The bottem will crack open for you and there should be a green piece of plastic card behind it. I replaced that with a piece of paper I cut out that matches it and colored it red with a SHARPIE red perminent marker.

For the trip/odometer I colored it red around the clear optic piece. I then cut out a CLEAR plastic cover piece from the box of markers I bought and colored it red so it's transparent. With a piece of paper, it's too dark so you want a transparent piece.
Pry open from the top with a tooth pick and then you can slide in a piece of transparent colored piece like I did or none if you're doing white.

You can see I tried a red piece of paper on the right side of the transparent piece.

This is how I colored it on the white back piece so it transmit more red light. I also went over my back piece of my dash as well so it's a lot more red now. There are small little circle clips right under the needle. If you lift the back side of the overlay enough, these clips will pop up allowing you a bit more room to work behind the overlay (allowing you to remove the green layer). You can simply pop these clips back in with a toothpick or a small metal pick. There are circle clips for the fuel, water temp, speedometer, and RPM.

This is how much redder (word?) it is after going over it another time with the marker.

    It is IN!
    with flash and shadow
    [IMG]

I may need to go over the radio again or something....

and of course, the main deal. I took the plastic piece off so you can see if better without the scratches on the cover. I took several pics so I can find the one that resembles it most. You know how pictures are....

Yes my fuel guage is still dead....

The whole time reading this thread, it looked like you knew what you were doing. I'm imprezzed. At least you were able to modify the CEL light to black. ;)

Since I'm bored as hell. I'll probably attempt this myself. How did you screw up on the fuel gauge?

because I pulled out the needle. I can do it better now if I had another cluster. With my tiny hands, I can best what I did previously.

    Looks great!!!!

Maybe I missed this during your post, but why did you go this route instead of bulb condoms? I'm curious because I've been thinking of doing this.

THe backside of the guage has a green layer on it. I rubbed it off with acetone. With this off, you can shine any color light at it. There are ALOT HOT SPOTS where the bulbs are, here they put a netting of black so it doesn't come up bright on certain areas, like what you see on mine near the fuel guage and the 20mph & 100mph and 3k-rpms.

With the SHARPIE I used, if I where to do it again, I'd go over it once, then let it dry and go over it again. Maybe a 3rd time too...haha
