Seems to me the list is biased, I mean how does an AWD car with a 5 star crash test rating get #2 on the list? Unless there are going off the fact that punk kids drive these ... which I read they are.

Biased Schmiased. How could it be biased when they're simply using the dollar figures per collision? The WRX is the new Honda Civic. Now that you can get one for less than ten grand it's putting a very capable car in stock form (and many are sold in modded form, which makes them even more potent) in the hands of younger, less experienced and (to varying degrees) dumber drivers. Same thing with the RSX and the Lancer, Sentra SE-R, etc. The crash test rating only means that they have a higher chance of surviving, not that it'll be a cheaper collision. Subaru parts aren't very cheap either.

Loss is loss it just means there are a bunch of expensive claims, this has a direct effect on rates.

Read the whole post before you go off on another of your little Sunday morning tangents, I highlighted it in case you didn't read it the first time.

Wow. Chet is really on a roll this morning and I wasn't even going off on him. Seriously, have a coke and a smile. I replied in a pretty civil manner, I save my "tangents" for others on this forum. All I said was that it wasn't biased, and you seem to have gotten butthurt about it.

I've always wanted a WRX but because I'm a sales rep road warrior and put about 25-30,000 miles on my car every year, the wrx just wasn't a great choice (mileage, premium gas, synth. oil, insurance premium). When I was figuring out my budget, the insurance cost on the WRX (and before mentioned higher costs) put it out of the range for me.

Amazing how much more expensive the WRX is to insure than my 2.5i. Seriously WAY more...

That list is B.S. So if I were to insure a Viper GT-S it'd be cheaper than a wrx? Also, I priced out insurance for many many vehicles with a few different insurance companies last month before I bought the TL, and the WRX was right in the middle of the pack. Actually in all honesty it costs more for me to insure my TL than it would have for me to insure a 2006 wrx. Where did they get this info?

Edit: Also, and this I just couldn't figure out, I priced out wrx rates- then I priced out Saab 9-2x Aero rates (same friggen car) and the Saab version would have been a minimum of $150 less (that was true with all 3 companies I used). Insurance companies are so stupid...

i'm sure they are probably including more mainstream cars under a certain value...I could be wrong. ^ there are lots of other cars that cost crazy amounts of money that I am sure cost like an arm and a leg a day to insure.

Yes, this list is simply based on the percentage of "total loss" claims for each vehicle. So yes, it is directly affected by the type of driver who owns/purchases each car. Personally, I'm not surprised at all that the WRX is high on the list.

The 10 cheapest cars list confirms what I have been saying for years....

Buicks are completely incapable of doing the speed limit and therefore are a hazard not to their own drivers but everyone else around them!

Do you have turbo-powah? I'm at $1200 every 6-months (for the mathematically impaired $200/month) at 22 years of age.

No, he's got a GF wagon IIRC. However, I was paying around 110 a month for my 02 WRX wagon when I was 23-24ish. What's your record like? Don't need specifics, etc. How long have you been with your insurance co?

The people who buy the sport coupes/sedans listed there (WRX, Tiburon, Lancer, tC, RSX, SE-R, Eclipse, Cobalt) are the same category of car enthusiasts as the majority of the people on this forum. We enjoy driving and modifying our somewhat economically priced cars that have more performance than your typical daily driver and grocery getter. What happens when you begin modifying your car and having fun with it? Chances are taken, drivers get in over their heads and get into accidents. **** happens. This is just a statement of what cars insurance companies cringe at insuring.

When I was shopping for cars (in 02') I was looking at:
    Acura RSX-S
    Dodge Stratus R/T
    Subaru WRX

cars are listed with the most expensive to insure (at that time anyway) on the top, the cheapest on the bottom:)

Things probably changed a bunch (In 06') once the WRX had a 2.5 instead of the 2.0.

I wonder about my insurance, now.

    06 2.5i, full coverage (250 deduct), 22yrs old, no tickets (cept tint, shouldn't matter?) = 140/mo.

Might have to start shopping around...

I dodged a bullet by having my 46 year-old mom listed as the primary driver. My family insures four vehicles so we save money there, too.

If your insurance company will allow you to do this, I would highly recommend it!

I pay $60 a month for full coverage on my 2002 WRX- what a steal!

When I was 22, I lusted for and bought a Dodge Stealth RT. The Twin Turbo AWD one.
I had a clean record (ticket just dropped off).

Everyone told me that I couldn't even get it insured, but I checked and since I had a Jeep as a "Primary car" I could use the Stealth as my second car. It was cheaper for me to keep my old Jeep and pay insurance on both.

That car cost me just $300 every 6 months!! ;)

Also, anyone about to or just turned 25 needs to make sure their insurance drops a bunch!
My car insurance dropped by 50% and my motorcycle dropped from $1200/yr to $200/yr! :eek3:

Your agent may or may not drop the age penalty without you asking.

I just moved to a "safer" neighborhood and some old ticket dropped off my record...now my wife and I pay $112/mo for full coverage on 2 cars, one of which is an '04 STi. She is 25, I am 26.
