ive been doing some research on car-part.com to maybe find a decent one not too far away... not so much luck. maybe someone on here may have one or know somebody. my 97 impreza 2.2l has about 243,xxx on it and the transmission HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS haha changed gear lube in it and pulled out some metal chunks so since that its been parked.

Get back to me on here! thank you

Don't quote me on this, as someone with more knowledge might be able to chime in on this one, but I would think that most manual transmissions from the 93-01 era would probably work as well. That would include the Legacy, Forester, and Impreza models.

Like I said though, someone with more knowledge on the intricate differences might know of what will or wont work.

I have one from a 92 Legacy 240K. $150. Was pulled from car to put in the following trans.
    94 WRX JDM 5 speed with about 40k. $750.

aslong as the front diff and rear diff have the same final drive ratio you should be fine.

And the clutch is still a push-type. Pull-type clutch transmissions cannot be converted to a cable very easily (I'm not going to say it's not possible, but it's not practical), and swapping to a hydraulic setup would be more trouble/money than just using the right trans.

1.8 and 2.2 transmissions will all have cable push-types, and 2.5s will have hydraulic push-types, which can be converted to cable just by moving the pivot ball and swapping clutch forks (VERY easy, just don't throw that stuff away). Anything with a turbo in front of it will be a pull-type.....

So I found one in Omaha and got some research on it, they want 450 for the tranny and 100 to ship it up here (Rochester) with 216xxx miles pulled from a rear end total on a 2.2 5sp manual Impreza wagon 98. Debated what I should do...

Both of mine will bolt right in. Both were used in a 92 Legacy with a 2.2 originally.

his is 150, bolts right in, and its local. why spend 550, for something you can get for 150.. plus one pulled out of a crash is risky..

I just talked to my son and the original trans from the 92 was howling when removed. The 94 JDM is in great shape with abot 40-50K on it and is also 4WD model. It will also bolt right in. Sorry.

Pretty sure that would be a pull-style clutch, which would require substantial modification to be used in place of a push-style cable clutch.

It is set up to use either. Originally it WAS a pull style, we set it up to use the 92 push style.

It does not take a lot of mods to get it to work either. Just tap a hole that already exists in the case and put in the pivot ball. End of mods.
