That is graphic! That is tune related for sure. If it were just one hole I would say maybe an injector but with two them I call a tune issue.

Was it on one side or both sides?

Just one side. and only the driver's side. we also had headgasket failure on that side right where the holes in the pistons are (I believe it was starting to fail at snodrift or maybe even LSPR). We flew in an Ex-Prodrive, Ex-MSD (Factory Hyundai WRC), Ex-Formula 1 engine tuner from England to tune the new ecu, I don't think it was the tune but he did say that with the fuel we had chosen, the engine wasn't very stable. I think it may have been anti-lag with poor fuel. We had issues on the practice stage with anti-lag on running like crap

for reference, our tuner did Adam Yeoman's car and mine back-to-back. Adam finished 8th Overall as a National Entry without blowing his motor up. But he brought his own race fuel where we mixed torco with local gas.

What fuel was in the car when it was tuned?

Was the damage on the pistons on the intake side or the exhaust?

They look like ****ed two stroke pistons! My guess is exhaust side. And since it was on the driver's side I also go with fuel/fuel ratio, as those cyls (with stock rails) get fuel last.

Top side, so intake. Right at the seam of the first compression ring.

Also, driver's side gets fuel first. regulator is on passenger side.

Fuel while tuning was still a torco mix, but mixed with MN pump gas, and at the race it was mixed with MO pump gas.

No, even though the fuel inlet is on the driver's side, it still gets fuel last, the driver's side cylinders always run the leanest, thus that is why they always have the lowest compression (even if its less than a psi) vs the others.

taking advantage of the situation to make a lot of improvements to the car. First step was to paint the engine bay and begin cleaning up all the wiring.

You sure about that? it contradicts everything I've ever heard.

    http://www.ludicrous-speed.com/wiki/index.php?title=Shanes_parallel_fuel_rail_mod
"Which means that cyl #4 gets the most pressure, while #3 gets the least."

    http://www.scoobymods.com/series-parallel-fuel-delivery-modification-t175.html?
"The 3 rd chamber will not run lean as it always has in the past"

Engine bay looks good carl! I like the new inner fender block-off.

If you think about it, the fuel would be moving the fastest by cylinder four since fuel for all the injectors is moving past this point. A faster moving fluid has less pressure, according to our good friend Bernoulli.

    Just a thought.

so what are you going to go with for fuel the next time? Messing around with stuff off the pump is just too risky for what you are doing imo. There needs to be consistency in your fuel and with using anything off of the pump you just can't guarantee a very high level of consistency.

    Haha, sweet!

huh....I guess that makes sense. I think every writeup I've seen about converting to parallel said the opposite. But that certainly doesn't make it fact...

the rally max is pretty spendy, but VP is the official fuel of Rally America so it's available at the races. leaning toward sunoco since it's more affordable, I just need to re-arrange the truck/trailer so I can carry enough for a 2 day

and we all know that means add more wooden cabinets to the side of the truck or strap it to the roof...

The best method to unload a full fuel drum from the truck is to place it on its side and roll down the ramp. Just don't stand in front of it. Getting it back up is not as fun though
