So I was at Blockbuster and came across the Initial D movie on the new release shelf. I picked it up and watched it and thought it was great. BUT, I do have some questions:
What type of car does he drive... ie86 or something.. (Yeah, they said it like a 1000 times and I still did not pick it up.)

What's up with his girlfriend.. Is she really a hooker?

At the end, he calls her and HE says he's sorry and then calls and accepts the racing team invite... so does that mean another movie?

Like I said, great movie. Kinda of convinces me I should keep my car, or buy an 86.

Ok, let me just let the cat out of the bag here and tell you there is about a gajillion hours of total plotline for initial D throughout the 3 tv seasons, endless mangas and one animated movie.

suffice to say yes it does continue (although there is no sequel to the live action movie) and yes, his GF is a japanese style schoolgirl hooker. hooks up with daddy san for a versace overcoat and gucci purse.

believe it or not, this is common in japan.

Hmmm, which movie is that? the one where he's running TOFU through the mountains for his dad and turns into mad drifter?

I just rented this vid a week ago. The storyline of this movie was taken right off of the animated Initial D. The acting was good, and I've learned to adapt to the actors. At first, I was like, "ewww, they're all wannabes!!!" Now I'm like, "they're okay, but Takumi's a showoff." ;)

haha, I thought the acting was alright, its more of a comedy type movie than a SERIOUS movie. Although I only watched it with subtitles, as I hate dubbing of any sort.

I thought the live action was lame. The only cool part is the drifting, other then that the whole movie suck. The movie doesn't go along with the animation. I'll stick to my anime.

I give the HK Movie version of Initial D a 1.5 star out of 4 star. That's just me... I'm sure the rest may have liked it or didn't care much for it.

The HK release lack the character personality building... I can't relate to the characters in the movie at all. The story line was about 75% off and at time it was hard to follow. To each their own though. Enjoy... after all, it's still entertaining.

I guess I didn't know the depth of the storyline. I thought some parts were corny but the drifting part very nice.

go watch "Legend of Speed" by the same director.

You get to see the oly filmed thing on earth where an impreza is teh bad guy. And it's the mines GC8 vs Evo 6 at the end.

It's kinda dated nowadays, but fun for a laugh.

is this the live action movie? if so i downloaded that after the initial theater release in china. i didnt really car fo teh movie. the acting seemed kinda wierd to me.

just to reiterate the points. the car is a 1986 (or was is 85) toyota trueno (AE86) panda. the car was sold in the US for a few years however only the 1986 one i believe that hte DOHC motor which was desirable. it is possible to pick up a hatchi roku (AE86) for fairly cheap, and there are a variety of motors that will fit in them. i have seen stuff online of a guy putting a 3 rotor (600+hp) into one. in the movie that car has a specailly built 20valve DOHC race engine engineered by TRD. i heard for the live action movie Toyota remade 3 of the engines.

the who schpeel with the girl is kinda odd, but i learned about it. apparently in japan old bussiness guys will pay good money to have a young schoolgirl age lady by their sides. from what i have heard it is just a paid friendship deal, that does not involve sex. its kinda wierd but i believe thats what it is.

    hope this helps

I believe that one benefit of Initial D tapping into the USA is that it shot up the value for the GC chassis Impreza RS. If I still had my RS, I would have had no problem selling it again. :)

The problem is, none of the eps of initial D available for sale in the USA feature the GC8, and although its bunta's car (not giving away much there plotwise) it doesnt get much screen time.

It is however in both versions of the credits for 4th stage, but it only appears in 2 episodes, the one where it burns takumi and the beginning and the "takumi is mystified by this ubercar" episode.

I want God Hand v Bunta. That would be the ultimate battle! (note the hint given by ryosuke to akumi right before god hand battle; he is like a ghost... ergo he is like bunta aka the ghost of mt. akina. They both drive one handed non grip non drift styles because bunta is always smoking)

secret hint: he only wins becuase of hilarious use of pre FnF "laptop controlled NAWS"

I do have the VCD in thai version. I thought it's pretty good tho. But I kinda dislike it because why subaru has to be a bad guy over mitsu. 2 drivers killed. Well the first killed was the Ho7 girlfriend. So sad!!!

its not a must see, it sucks also, just like initial d live. in initial d those are not good drifting at all, the drifts dont connect, low drift angle, i wonder who the driver is. the only kinda good racing movie in my opinion is thunder bolt, i think i got the name right. the movie is like 10 years old, jackie chan is in it, the only good racing part is when a fto and a r32 racing on the street. and also when they are racing on the track when they go to pit stops theres a lil timer on the corner so u know how much time it takes to get the car back out to the track again. which is kinda neat.

the drivers/actors in teh initial d live action are just pop music stars from china. so being they are singers not racers i highyl doubt their drifts would be awsome.

^^^ i dont think they drive also, i think they hire stunt drivers or just mountain drifters to do the drifts.
