Im thinking of getting some Samco intercooler hoses, are these top quallity? Also, I was reading on nasioc that it will decrease lag which I can see (since the stock y pipe looks like a piece of hot carl) also, 5HP gain? is this true? also, what site has the best prices on these intercooler hoses?
The cheapest place would be ebay and the brand would be GPmoto. That's what I have on my FXT in black. They fit great and the quality is great. You don't have to worry about these collapsing because this part is made to hold boost and is located after the turbo. If it was before the turbo, there is a chance it may collapse due to high volumes of vacuum. So if it does what it's supposed to do and does it well, why not?
just score some used ones off of nasioc. you are not going to feel any difference. i think one of the main reasons for getting these is longevity.
Only one you want is the y-pipe, try and pick one up used. The other two are purely cosmetic. 5hp claim is in that realm where you are within the % error between dyno runs...i.e., I'd hardly take it as gospel and it is probably overstatement. I do disagree with Justin and will say that I felt there was smoother throttle response and it will very, very slightly improve spool up time.
samcos I agree with Zola. Out of the three that come in that set, most dont even bother with the bov hose, its kinda of a pita with the clamps. The y hose is the one you want.
Ha, no joke...I really mangled the hot carl out of the stock clamp on the BPV return hose. Some unholy alliance of pliers and wrench and ??? finally got it off while tearing it into 4 pieces I think. Hated that thing!!
those clamps bow. i replaced all of mine that were like that with the nicer ones that just use a screw to tighten it. you can position the screw head do you can get to it with out taking anything off. makes it much easier to do things.
I just did this on Saturday, I got a used hose from Chong. It's a subtle difference, but a good one. The power delivery is a bit smoother and my turbo does seem to spool slightly quicker. It's not a night and day difference, but it's a good thing.
the thing you need to remember is that it is a piece of the puzzle. It might not seem like much now, but add a larger turbo and tmic and the stock hose is a hugh restriction. Another thing to do while you are putting the hose on is port the ic inlet elbows. That will probably make a larger difference than the hose itself. Russ
