What is the benifit of moving to a fmic Vs a larger top mount.
and are there kits out there that allow you to keep your fog light placement?

Eventially looking at upgrading the turbo,
but keeping it as a daily driver.

is a tune required for moving to front mount?

The turbo XS one lets you keep your fog lights. Also the ebay one lets you keep your fog lights since its just a rip off of the turbo xs. Oh wait. I see you have an 06. Hmm. Not sure on that one.

But which one is "better" per say?

I would think the front mount would have more surface area, but that's just me.

front mounts typically will cool the incoming charge better while a top mount will typically give you better throttle response and spool

In the low RPM range you'll probably feel the little lag if you move to a fmic, top mounts all have the heat soak thing. Numbers wise i would comment that it really depends on your turbo setup. How big are you going?? and what is your application.

Well, I have been running temp probes in my tmic for 5 years now and the heat soak thing is kinda crap. In stop and go traffic, yes it will heat up (so will a fmic), but as soon as you start moving, it cools right back down. At speed, the tmic and fmic will run almost the exact same temps (within 2-3 degrees). If it is going to be a daily driver, I would go with the tmic. No point on haning $1000 on the front bumper. Now, if you plan on something bigger then a 20g/green, I would probably start looking into a fmic. Basically you want to make sure the tmic/fmic can flow the same amount as the turbo.

I'm only looking to upgrade to the 20g / or the green havn't decided which tho... but thats as large as I would get as I want to keep factory possition, and a somewhat stealth look.

front mounts look really nice, but if I'm going to lose throttle response... i'm not sure thats really what Iwant..

    is the lag really noticable?

There are a couple of members that have/had the 20g tmic setup and they were putting down alost the same amount of hp as the fmic guys. They had a bit quicker spoolup and a little more tq, but they were a real close.

was this a stock sti tm? or a larger tm?

I do like the looks of a sexy fm, with some really nice tubing.
but if it's going to hinder performance... I would rather stay away from it.

Unless we're talking fairly un-noticable lag

forgot to mention.... I would love to keep as much stock as possible..
    like the factory reinforcement bar
and as little bumper cutting as possible.
(some of this I don't mind doing)
but the important thing, is I don't want to lose my spt intake.

pm darrel at ultimate racing, ask him to give you a deal on their TMIC.
it fits very well, and is about the ballinist thing i've ever seen.

cooler air, your stock ic has major heat sulking probems. looks too of course )

and yes they have a couple kits that allow the foglights to be kept.. they also do have larger top mount options if you liek your top mountso birds can get sucked up in there and fry on it

6MTizzle and I have almost the exact same setup. Both STi, both 20g. He has a fmic, I have a tmic. If I recall, he made about 8 more hp, I made about 20 ft-lb torque. This was on 110 octane.
