I've seen muscle cars run big'ol slick tires on the street... I'm sure you can drive them on the road as long as the cop doesn't question the tires. Why would you drive them on the street... that defeats the purpose of using them to their full potentual... too much stop and go traffic.
AutoX requires DOT approval. I think many track day organizations require DOT tires. No other reason...

I have never heard of them requiring DOT legal tires either. You need DOT legal to drive on the public roadways though. Hoosier is a well known racing tire.
Who's ownd?! People do your research before comments like these. Not hearing it just means you're ignorant... http://www.bmwccaclubracing.com/2004 Series/Rules/2005_rules_midseason_changel_20041204.pdf http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/2005ImprovedTouringCategory.pdf http://www.pca.org/pca/clubrace/docs/pca_rules_2005.pdf
Since they're based off the RS303 and look like te RS303, you could probably squeeze by. The only reason they are not DOT legal is they were developed specifically for the 2004 race season.. Rolex and Grand Am. Wouldn't make financial sense to go through the trouble of getting DOT signoff on a tire you don't plan on selling, but only using for racing. I think it's stupid that clubs are requiring DOT legal tires (thx for the links), but I'm guessing it's for insurance purposes.

I too, think it is related to "government standards" and the perception that they are ALWAYS better.
Ah, then it would be owned Too much of that internet jargon (own3d, etc.)... I was definitely tempted, but I would have been pissed if I couldn't use them for AutoX.
