I have loosely followed Subaru going-ons by way of Ojibwe Forests Pro Rallies in the past, but finally took the plunge after a several month search for the right vehicle. As of early September, I am the proud owner of a 2007 Diamond Grey Metallic Legacy GT 5MT. It was painful to find one of these that wasn't modded, and I ended up shipping it up to Minneapolis from California. So far, it has been a blast to drive and I can't wait for winter to come! Mods will eventually happen, but it is under a certified pre-owned warranty for 2 more years. I want to keep the warranty for the entire timeframe. I guess the urgent question once the snow hits is whether snow tires are necessary, or if the all season tires it shipped with will be fine. My last cars were a Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo and a daily driver. I really hope this new GT will be fun to drive every day! I am also looking forward to getting to the occasional meet up to see your cars. Cheers, Dan Pics of the new car, (hasn't been cleaned up yet in these shots):
I've been through two winters now with some REALLY cheap FleetFarm all-seasons. While there are better tires for winter, the vehicles do incredibly well in the snow. If you have the money to drop on some Winters...then totally go for it. If money is an issue and the tread is in decent condition with the A/S's, give them a shot. You can always buy tires mid winter season if need be... Just my $.02.
welcome! love the ride. snow tires are not necessary but if you ever drive a car with proper snow tires, you'll probably end up buying some shortly after lol. like shibbsy said, all seasons are mediocre performers but if you drive appropriately for your tires, you'll get along ok
Thanks for all the advice and comments - I will try the existing tires out, but will probably need to get winters. Also, I will search elsewhere in the forums for this, but the power curve doesn't seem very smooth. At wide open throttle, the curve is kind of jerky at various RPMs (not very descriptive, but the best I can come up with). Is that typical for Subarus or should I take it in for some warranty work?
