So my iphone 3g I unlocked today.. it rocks.. even have a Subaru theme through the system..

my question is it was updated to the latest firmware 3.0.1 before doing the jailbreak... but itunes is asking for the update agian as it was jailbroken using the 3.0.0 firmware...

does anyone know anythign about this stuff.. ie can I update adn not lose everything or brick my iphone??

or should I just reset and update firmware then use another jailbreak software?? seems that everywhere says you still use firmware 3.0.0 for the jailbreaking??

I'm pretty sure u have to stay with the 3.0.0 softwear until the 3.0.1 comes out it won't work with the jail break. That's what all the older jailbreaks tell u. Watch all the utube videos they explain more

yeah, the Jailbreak is versioned to the os. So you are stuck with 3.0.0 until jb 3.0.1 comes out.

I have been debating it but it still kinda worries me haha. I have 3.0.1 on my phone and the only thing I have used from the update is the cut, copy, paste, and picture save. Other than that I dont know what else it does besides you can search your entire phone for something... never use it though.

Did you have to download an app for recording video. They just wanted to make you think that you had to get the 3gs to do these things then they make more $$$.

Tried redsn0w with the latest firmware it wouldnt recognise it. So to do it I would need to use the 3.0.0 firmware. Although the site said it works with 3.0.1 so I may need to do some more research

Mine has been jail broken for a while. Google Voice FTW. Suck it apple.

Anyways, you should be able to use itunes to do the 3.0.1 updates, then use redsn0w for the 3.0 jailbreak. The 3.0.1 update only changes 1 line of code to fix a security leak, then the jailbreak modifies the existing code on the phone to unlock everything. I had issues doing it with win 7 but I fired up my mac and everything was done in 5 minutes. I think it actually take more time to reboot the phone after the jailbreak than anything else.

Nate, you can upgrade with iTunes to 3.0.1, but I would downloading 3.0.1 and starting fresh, not uploading, or restoring from a previous backup. Upgrading while jailbroken, then jailbreaking again can be messy.

Once your phone is on 3.0.1 official, run redsn0w for 3.0.0, and when it asks for your .ipsw file, choose the 3.0.1 file that iTunes downloaded. It will work that way.

Or just not worry about it. It was a single line of code for the text message thing. You would have to look up what was 3.0.1, but it is not a huge deal. Your done, it has been jail broken, call it a day and run programs that apple hates.

Google voice is a phone service through google. They give you a phone number and you can forward that to any other number. You get free text messaging. There is a whole bunch of things with google voice. Just do some searching on it. Apple killed the official and secondary apps for google voice, so they moved the mobile version over to cydia. Now that the FCC got involved, they are holding the official app until someone can figure out apple's approval process.

Yes, if you're out of warranty, www.ifixit.com is a great site for apple device repair.

How the heck did you do that?? Heh. I don't know anyone who's broken one of these screens yet..

I have the wrx theme on my phone and the information bar at the top (singnal, time battery, ect...) likes to just disappear. Then you lock the phone and it comes back. Anyone else notice this
