(i wanna stay laptop) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8776176&type=product&id=1204332255372 and lets face it, im not a huge computer guy..i know how to use the programs and everything just not what are some are capable of...so any help at all?? -Kyle
IMO, that notebook looks like it'll do just fine for what you want it to. Make sure the software are vista compatible.
Yep, I haven't bought a single computer part from anywhere but newegg since 2001. They have laptops. Make sure you pay the cash for the higher end video processing and you'll be golden.
Also that. Dell Laptops for the win. We have 3. And they all still run. One of them is nearly a decade old at this point.
I third the Dell, if you don't go with something on newegg.com. I have an XPS M1710, and it's really fast, with great a great video card. Can pretty much run anything. Of course, it all depends on what you are willing/able to spend.
buy a mac. Jk, not going to work for what you need it for. I am surprised you guys like dell. I work at a help desk and we get a lot of dell computers that have bad hardware. I personaly like toshiba, I had two and they worked great. If you can get windows xp somehow.
I vote against dell. I have one (admittedly a crappy one), and my girlfriend has one, as well as a couple friends. They've all had numerous strange issues. my girlfriends is very unstable. not a fan! only thing I would prefer a dell over is a consumer-grade compaq :eek3: I love Stinkpads (got one that's 12 years old, still use/drop it every day ). And Toshibas (as long as you reformat first, the couple that I've used that still had the "stock" software on there were obnoxious!!). Sony Vaios are pretty nice too. oh yea.....and NewEgg > * the only time I've bought computer stuff elsewhere is when I need it immediately and buy locally.
Being a computer geek, I have a knack for making things work the way I need them to work for me I've modded and upgraded my Dell, and she runs great, although this hard drive needs a fresh install again. :-/
Watever. Get a MAC AIR. Those things are suhweeeeet. It can run Windows, and is half an inch thick. Expensive tho. They have cool shyt like a hard disk protector, with senses that its falling and quickly moves the hard disk needle. Its alot more stuff like a level, and nuclear reactor. JK on NR ohh yea F BEST BUY they mean BEST RIPP-OFF.
I'm pretty sure the Lenovos have had that feature for a while. Although I'll give it to apple the magnetic power cord is genius.
It wont do what he needs it to do. CAD and drafting require hard disk space. Also, you can do the same thing, have it come preloaded with windows and have just as good if not better hardware for cheaper with alot of other laptop makers.
i recommend a thinkpad. i have a t61 and love it. dells are just too hot for me, and i don't have much experience with hp or toshiba to say either way.
One more thing about Thinkpads: Once you get used to the nubbin (Trackpoint) you'll like it waaay better than a touchpad. I do, anyway. Nipple pointing devices FTW.
the first thing i did with my thinkpad was disable the touchpad. probably the most worthless item on the laptop, besides the fingerprint reader...
I just finished rebuilding an old Thinkpad 600x. (circa 1999) No touchpad at all! Side topic: I've looked at new versions of the classic buckling-spring keyboards with a Trackpoint. http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/en104wh.html (When I was a kid, I loved the feel of the keyboard on my Dad's old IBM PC. As clicky as you could get. This was the first IBM PC they sold. 64k RAM, no hard drive, 2 low-density 5 1/4 floppies, green monochrome. Had to wait for 10 minutes for it to warm up before using it. Played 'Karateka' well once the RAM was upgraded to 256k...) I don't know if I want to spend $100 on a keyboard just for the Trackpoint and springs, though.
good call on the track point. took me a while to get used to it. but I just started to use this Sony Vaio I just got, and absolutely despise the touch pad. I get my old Thinkpad 600 (not 600x....last copyright on the bottom is 1996 or 97) out, a third the processing power, but I love that track point!!! slightly used thinkpads on ebay aren't even much more expensive than a comparably-equipped new laptop, and much more reliable!
