Well, as my priorities are starting to shift towards a house, I'm very lightly looking for the potential replacement for the Cobra. I'm looking for something that has a comparitive advantage economically over the Cobra in every category: Gas mileage, insurance, the ability to drive more than 50% of the year, etc. For some reason the Audi TT 225 with a 6 speed has caught my eye. I like the engine 1.8T, the Quattro, 6-Speed Tranny, and styling. Some of the Euro body styling kits and bits make the car look mean. Only downside is that I've always seen them as chick cars, much the same as Pontiac Sunfires, V6 Mustangs, Grand Ams, etc. That and some Audis and VW's are notorious for Electrical Gremlins and the elusive Dash Fire. What does the Offtopic think?
Chick car for sure. Get a GTi R32. yes, it is still a VW fire hazard, but at least it looks a little less girly. Plus the interior is quality.
I forgot that the price has to land around $15K. That's where quite a few of the 225's are landing with about 60K on the clock. No matter what I buy it'll be a downgrade in straight line speed and coolness :emo: .
My wife wants one so yes, they are a girl car. That being said, the next car we buy will probably be a silver 225hp audi tt quattro coupe. they're comfortable and nice, but its a vw golf in a pretty dress.
^^^Plagiarism I say. Even though they are a chick car- they are great to drive and pretty good to own according to a coworker of mine who drives one every day.
we'd like something she can drive in the summer and winter when not driving the mini, she likes the looks, I fit in it ok without complaint and they're decent on the snow so its a pretty solid choice. It doesn't hold much, but thats what the WRX wagon is for.
+1. The two TT's that where in my family ended up with expensive repairs (1k+) right after the warranty expired. They look OK, and drive nice, but I wouldn't buy one, especially used.
my other car is a british antique, reliability reputations and repair costs don't scare me, I've figured out plenty of ways to fix things for a lot less than other people over the years. The TT is not a mechanically complex car in any way, if a part is built crappy i guess it may need to be replaced down the road at some point but they aren't horrible cars maintenance wise for the people I know who drive them.
My first thought would be chick car but, It sounds like it may fit your needs as a good daily driver and if it help you get into your own house I say go for it. I would rather own my own place and drive the TT than live with my folks and drive a Cobra. You have plenty of time to get another "toy" car.
Try to find a 1.8t A4 quattro.... fun little car... some kits look relativley agressive....and its not a putrid little TT girl coupe.... all i see in rochester is old ladies and young chicks drivin them.... its a glorified miata!! But as far as where you stand... the car fits your needs... sporty but economical.... get the place and the TT.
if u wanna go audi go A4 with the 2.0T my buddy drives one and they are pretty nice. better ride than the TT and you dont look like a chick driving it
you do know the TT and the A4 are mechanically identical except the TT weighs less, has more favorable weight distribution, a more aggressive suspension than an A4?
check out the reiger kits for them it makes them much more barable. check out lltek thats where i order for my dads s4
but unless you want to take it around a corner doing 90 its not going to make that much of a difference. if you want a really fun audi just go for the rs6 biturbo v8 makes for some fun. just fyi i have friends who have tt's and a4's. i'd take the a4 over the tt any day
I see it more of a old man's car or something. My mom has a A4 with the 1.8T and its weak sauce. Why not a used WRX or used Legacy?
I say chick car. And I wouldn't exactly call them fast...but if you're not looking for a performance replacement for the Cobra, then that's probably not an issue. Anything else catching your eye?
I say NOT a chick car. I've wanted a TT since the day they came out. and they make them with a 6-cyl :yumyum: :yumyum: then again.....I am a little odd in my automotive tastes.... go test drive one. if you like it, who cares if others think it's a chick car?
My friends TT felt very torque and really fast. I think it is tuned by abt tho. Remus exhaust and a chip
Wait wait wait....this is wrxpeed we are talking about... Dude, this car is soooooooooo perfect for you. Get one.
Thats like saying it doesn't matter if you weigh 400 lbs, so long as you dont try to play in any NBA games. Fact is the A4 is a crappier car, less nice in almost every way, slower and has a worse suspension... but I guess this doesn't matter unless you're driving over 90mph? An A4 corners like a dog compared to a TT at any speed. Not only do I know people who own them, i've driven both at speed. The A4 is about the same handling dynamics as a modern toyota corolla, average in every way. Lets not mention how many design awards the TT has won in comparison with the remarkable unrewarded A4. If the TT is a chick car thats because of whatever stereotypes people import onto small 2 seater cars. You tend to lose those stereotypes when you watch all manner of small miatas etc. destroy punk kids in street racer cars at track days. Yes, lets just start throwing out cars that are 5 to 10 times out of his price range now. Audi makes lambos, so just go get a murcielago SV.
i may. I'm just looking around to see what's out there and for what price. This car caught my eye i actually was looking at E36's as well Exactly my thinking. the Cobra is nice, but bringing girls home to the rents isn't . My buddy has an A4 and its a sick car, but not feeling it. Nope, different turbo, plus the 2 intercoolers. The 180hp has the K03 while the 225 has the K04. There are a lot of cars that catch my eye. for some reason I'm in the Euro mood. I had a buddy with a 1.8T in his Golf and the thing was a torqey little thing. That small turbo spools and hits at like 1500 rpm.
Have you ever actually sat in one of those things? The sightlines are horrid, especially in the blindspots and rear.
I haven't, but the cobra isn't necessarily great either. I'm used to it now, just pay attention to what's around you and take your time changing lanes and you're good.
If your doing the homeowner thing you may want to keep in mind you will probably be making bigger trips to the grocery store,H.Depot,etc...It might be nice to have a vehicle that can carry a few things.
I've never liked the S2k and RWD FTL in the winter. I don't think the Audi is impractical by any means for my needs. I only need 2 seats max and don't plan on towing or hauling anything. It'd be a commuter car with decent looks and performance while getting gas mileage and getting through snow.
Haldex AWD ftl. Its like an auto subaru except in manual form. I'd be scared of any M car out of warranty. Nothing like spending over 20k to replace an engine. A friend works at motorwerks and a brand new M5 bkew its motor coming off the truck. $49k later for a new engine :eek3:
To piddster's point, I know someone with an 850 (the early 90's model) who can't afford to put a new engine in his car...so it's just sitting in his garage until he can afford the engine. Doesn't matter though, I'd still take an M coupe or E36 and risk it.
