I guess if nothing else, with age and a bit of saving, comes the good stuff. I've been lucky enough to be driving an 04 STi for a year but the wife won't let me buy it 'presents' as it has to be my daily driver and if it don't work; I don't work. I see her point. Anyway I've been saving and just bought a 95 L coupe with a v4 JDM STi running gear, engine, brakes, suspension etc and wondered who would be the right place to take it to to get it checked out? It's on it's way from sunny FL and would like someone to check it over once it gets here and can also point me in the right direction for 'toys'. Thanks Munky
JDM motors aren't much different than their US counterparts. Any number of people on this forum would be good to give it a check. You could also bring it by RS Motors and have Matt or Ronnie look it over.
I paid $5k for it. It's got a lot of the mechanical stuff done but the body is completely stock and has a rattle can matt paint job... To make up for the lack of hood vents it has a fmic and then the usual exhaust / intake / stuff. It also has a BOV that may come off, boost contoller and turbo timer. I think it will need a good tune to make the most of the intake / exhuast and controller! Thanks for the advice. If I can find the link of the advert I'll post it. Think the window tints will have to go for the MN cops and to keep it on the low down! Again any advice is seriously welcome! Car seems pretty rust free so I thought that it was worth it for that and the parts. The lack of AC and heater is going to be a big challenge... The power steering has a torn pipe so lost it's fluid.
The BOV will be fine. I wouldn't bother removing it since you would have to figure out how to adapt a stock recirc to the new piping for the FMIC. There is a heater. A/C and heater are not the same thing. Trust me, your hot coolant goes through a heater core. It would be pointless to remove that from the loop, so I'm almost 100% sure he didn't do that. What concerns me is the fact that the power steering it torn, he refers to his tires as "low pros," he lists the big 4 no-no 'upgrades' on his list of performance bits, a 'spare' shortblock, and he seems a little 'slow.' You would definately want to have an expert peek around.
How did they fare? I had one back in the uk but that was a lower spec than the STi. If I get a decent tune, should I be worried about running with the other mods? Thanks Munky
