So, I've been looking for a laptop for a while. I don't need anything bionic, just wireless internet and the ability to use XP or something like that. Movies here and there and pictures, but mostly justso my wife and I can work at home once in a while - and not be tied down to the basement for the internet. Neither of our companies use vista... People have tole me that Vista blows goats, and that the new computers only come with it. My kid sister is the technology teacher at a local elementary so I've got someone that knows what they're doing who will help, but I wanted to bounce it off of you guys. Mostly because I know very little about computers. Here's the link to the Best buy Page $599.99
not bad, I would look at microcenter.com or even newegg.com before bestbuy. I think their customer service is horrible to say the least.
Having worked for BB, I can say that you can get good service if you know how to manipulate them. I'm not a fan, and ours is an acceptable at least store. Either way, if you want help loading XP on the system, I can get drivers and everything pretty quickly, just let me know if you want any help. Edit: Oh yeah, that's a pretty decent system.
In terms of hardware and performance, I'd say it's a fair price. An important aspect that I overlooked when I bought my laptop was it's physical design. The way the keys feel, its weight, the amount of slots on the exterior for USB etc. This is one advantage of buying in store. Otherwise, the hardware specs looks plenty sufficient for the needs you described.
I will argue that point. You CAN revert a system, but it takes a load of hunting for drivers. I have a secret weapon that has aided me greatly, however....
Yes of course this is possible. You will need XP media and then do a full re-install [reformat the disk]. Whether or not XP will have drivers for that model is the real question. Often times MS will spit them out over update, but I would talk to a Sony tech first to see if you can get an XP driver disk for that model.
It all depends on the chipset of the machine...if its an Intel chipset, you won't have any issues with XP...if its some off brand, thats a different story. Just because its a Sony VAIO doesn't mean Sony provides the drivers all the time. That machine has a Intel chipset, so Intel would provide the drivers for all the integrated circuitry. Yes, you can run XP on that laptop
Not to negate anything said above however, I retract my statement about loading XP onto that hardware.
The fun thing about the electronics industry... Sony didn't make the chipsets, therefore you can usually find an XP driver, even if the system comes with Vista preloaded.
I agree with you however, I wouldn't want the OP to be turned down for support, hardware or software, because of a "non-recomended" OS. Thats why I felt it necessary to CMA.
