Yep, its getting traded in Saturday. I did a dumb thing today and bought a 2003 Mustang Cobra with 22,000 on the clock. I'm gonna give the domestic game a little try, see where that gets me (hopefully not in the ditch). I hope I find a great suby for my winter beater before November. Pics will be up promptly on Saturday once I take delivery of the car.

Not dumb at all. You'll love the car. I've never met an unhappy Cobra owner.

you'll love the sound, power, tire smoke, but you'll hate the gas mileage, terrible build quality, and unreliability. but ide still roll one :)

honestly, gas mileage is rated at like 16/22, similar to an STi's mileage which is like 18/24. and my stage 3 wrx wasn't exactly easy on the gas since it runs pig rich, maybe 280 miles a tank.

Also from what i've heard from a lot of people, cobra owners and others alike, is that the ford dealers treat Cobra owner's very well in terms of warranty coverage, no bs. It was and still is their flagship car (not including Ford GT), top of the line, special edition, and want to treat the owners that way. They want to keep them happy....that and parts are dirt cheap compared to a lot of other vehicles. Don't know if this is true 100% firsthand, but it can't be any worse than most other stealerships.

basically i was sick of being an underdog in my eyes. Don't get me wrong, i love subies with all my heart, but i want something that i can go fast in a straight line all day for cheap. Enter the Cobra which is factory underrated at 390, closer to 420 HP, is already Blown and can get to 500 HP just as easy as buying a pack of gum. I don't autox so that never appealled to me. I'm at heart a hick and like tire smoke, nice sounding cars (subies included), and something that holds its own on the highway when passing F-Bodies  .

I know I just stepped in from another planet, one where two wheels rule and stuff . . . but -->

If you "want something that i can go fast in a straight line all day for cheap." Consider something with three less driven wheels, I can name like 12 bikes that will walk away from your Mustang Cobra nonchalantly, in bone stock trim, without even thinking hard, and all with out the door costs of less than 12.5k. Then comes the mods. . . holy criminy . . . do ya know how many HP a Mustang (or anything on four wheels) needs to match a 550 lb bike making 300rwhp? Or how about a 400lb bike at the same? If fair weather straight lining is what you are after, cars are not where it is at my friend. I am talking about a land where 3k + 12k = 8 sec 1/4 even if you suck.

But that is just my oppinion & of course I don't want to pee in anybody's poridge while I am so new around here and all.

You also forgot that even a modded bike gets like 40 mpg minimum

Funny thing is i was that close to pulling the trigger on a New R6 last week when i went to my buddy's dealership to look at them. I prefer 4 wheels though, that and i don't even have my permit yet to legally drive a bike. Not to mention that my mom would flip.... i still live at home while in college and that's basically the one rule she enforces on me - no bikes unless you're out of the house.

I guess bikes don't really have the underdog effect though. Almost sorry to hear you passed on the R6. . . that is not a begginner's bike. I would of course suggest taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation beginner's class to find out if you even like riding & start looking and researching for when ya get out from under her wing . . . you might come back to Subbie and pick up a bike after you get the American Muscle and repair bills out of your system. (wink, wink, nudge).

I don't seriously think you will have any regrets. I went through a phase like that when I was about your age. Picked up a pristine '71 Pontiac LeMans, sold it at a profit after driving it for a year and a half and have been kicking myself ever since. . . probably the only car I regret selling.

damn, don't think i'll have it by saturday now. The dealer said they need to put cats back on it (state law says they have to be on if you're aware of them not) because it was traded in without cats. They said it'd be ready 2 days ago when we finished on monday, they now call me to tell me they have to outsource the labor to Exhaust Pros to take them off. I'm pissed to say the least. I literally said i don't want the cats back on anyways and the second that it gets home its getting modded anyways.

There has to be some way i can get it w/o them sending it to some hole-in-the-wall shop that will most likely beat the car and who knows what else before i get my hands on it.

The sales guy is going to have me riding his ass everyday to beg the GM of the dealership to let me have it as is.

its not so much 'state law' as they dont test but it is a federal law which supersedes any other!!

this post has bikes floating in my head again! AAAAh! I have always wanted a Hayabusa, but feel fairly confident that id die on it if I did. I like my wrx for the cornering. My feelings have been right along with this post for 1/4 mile stuff.
Congrats on the car though, I was impressed when a girl i knew smoked her tires up when we were going 60. not to mention the sound in the process.

well, i rode their asses enough. they'll let me have the car as is if i sign a form they are going to draw up that says i basically won't sue them for not having the catalytic system on there yada, yada. Think i should bring a lawyer down for this ;) ???

Basically as soon as i can get there its mine, probably saturday now since my damn work "needs" me to be there all day friday because 3 out of 5 of our sales staff is training, great planning on my manager's part.

    Pics to come soon.

i drive by that place everyday to and from work, and a buddy applied there for a job... says there's a bunch of 17 year olds working there and i'm sure if they got ahold of the car it would be taking a few "test drives" around the block.

ha, i don't have a camera on my phone. i'm rocking a Nokia 9300, no camera, Doh. I do have a phone from the "evil empire" as well, but didn't want to snap pics of the car til its signed and done with you know, then I could actually says its mine as opposed to "the car i want to buy at the dealership".
