Does anybody have a suggestion or experience dealing with a company the buys junk cars? I've searched through the interwebs and called a few places. Several places don't answer their phones or don't respond to e-mails or text messages. Thanks in advance! Steve
If you just want it gone, I know a guy who will do that and he's great to deal with. But I don't think he typically buys them, just hauls them off for free. I have typically found that for the pittance most yards will pay you (unless you bring the car in yourself), that the pain the in *** factor is more than the cash value.
Our warehouse manager just went through this last week with one of our company vans that was destined for the crusher. Had trouble finding someone because he didn't want to pay to have it removed. Camel Towing from Blaine came and got it. I'm not joking.
Metro Metals will come pick up cars, they answered the phone when I called them and would have given me a quote if the car I was scraping was more than just the shell. Because I just had the shell of a car, I had to bring it in myself with a uhaul trailer and got 16 whole dollars from it, enough to cover half the trailer rental. I was just happy to have it gone. They require a signed title but doesn't have to be in your name.
Seriously I remember someone posting a positive review of a company for this like 6-12 months ago, maybe you can find the thread.
I sold a partially stripped v70 to French lake auto a few years ago. But I'm up in big lake so that may make a difference on if they do it or not. I got like $200ish for it. And they picked it up.
From what Ive learned trying to get rid of my rsx shell a few months ago is that scrap prices are awfully low. If they come and get it you likely wont get a dime. If you bring it to them you'll get the price of the weight but it wont be much right now. It may have changed since then but I guess for whatever its worth.
I have received two quotes. The first was $145.00 and the 2nd was $30.00. I'll make a couple more calls today and then they can come get that POS off of my driveway!
I used Camel Towing to haul away my 98' Forester. I had it pretty well parted out, didnt have the title and my little sister lost the only key for it. It took some doing to get it on the trailer, but the kid they sent was very friendly and quick about it. They still gave me $250 plus a free Camel Tow t-shirt!!
The last few I've gotten rid of, I took a couple pictures of them as they sat, and posted on Craigslist. Highest bidder... The last 2 didn't have any wheels or suspension on them, and I still got $150...
