OK, I have a 27mm bar for the front and a 24mm bar for the rear that I haven't installed yet (I was going to wait until I had endlinks). However, I'm really excited to put them in and play a little (especially for the fun run), so I'm wondering if they will work with the stock endlinks SAFELY at all, or should I just continue waiting?
I am pretty sure you will be fine with stock endlinks. I just replaced my stock ones with kartboy and i did have a whiteline rear sway.
They'll work fine with the stock endlinks. Unless you're racing or something really high powered, you shoudn't worry about breaking one. However, aftermarket endlinks will make a ton of difference.
I'd install them. They'll be lots of that on the fun run. FSB install isn't really that much work, but really a PITA. RSB install is cake.
How bout just waiting for the full package, your putting huge sways on the stock plastic links. Plus for a fun run where you know your gonna beat beating the snot out of your car. IMO you already know the feel of the car and to adapt to the new feel in two days before the fun run seem alil far fetched.
No offense to who this happened to just trying to prove a point, fun run and a unfamiliar suspension may =
You're going to run a higher risk of breaking the links, especially with that 27mm bar. Plus, you're not going to be getting the full effect of them as you'll be flexing the links well before you start putting any real torsion on the bar. You can run them, but you're not getting your moneys worth out of the bar. You'd be better off getting a set of Kartboys, look on Nasioc and you can even find used ones. They're even rebuildable, I had to get a couple new sets of bushings and sleeves and they were 16.00 shipped. Tom has some of the best customer service I've ever seen. Kartboy FTMFW.
I wouldnt change the suspension in a way that would dramatically affect the handling of the car, especially one which will change the oversteer and understeer dynamics of the car immediately before driving the car hard on a public road. But hey, do whatever you want.
i disagree with the swaybar with stock endlinks, i have the hotchkis 27mm and i have stock crappy plastic endlinks and havent broken anything.
That's encouraging to hear, but I don't want to go pushing the car around and not know what to expect on roads I'm unfamiliar with this Sunday. I appreciate all the helpful input from people on here, but looking at Whiteline boxes in my garage is getting old...
I ran big swaybars with stock endlinks for a LONG time. I didn't break the rears until I was doing some seriously stupid **** in the backwoods of Georgia. In the same day I broke some rear endlinks and BENT my rear swaybar, I also bent my subframe and dented my oil pan. Put the bar on. Swapping droplinks is easy to do. Also, I happen to have some Kartboy Front Endlinks that will fit a sedan for cheap.
Err ahh, no, not definite. I have been running a 22mm rear and 24 front with stock endlinks on the RS. That car has seen many track days and ~4yrs of AutoX on the current bars. No issue. Not saying that they will never break, but many don't actually have the experience to claim they will. There is always variation in quality of parts. ...not pointing fingers....
Which is why I'm going to keep them off until after the weekend. However, I am getting so anxious... You don't understand how it's killing me!
Shibbs has first dibs, but if he doesn't have the cash... they're just kind of sitting here... PM me for price.
If you're gonna spend the $$ on a beefy rsb get some end links. There was a test on nasioc where the stock end links took about 2-3mm on "swaybar" action and turned it into flexing of the endlinks. So if you buy a 27 mm rsb and use the stock crappy links you're theroitically only getting a 24mm swaybar "feel" Same goes for the ****ty mount that came on the 02-03 wrx's, they transfer flex tot he subframe and don't make the most out of your swaybar set-up. Do it right the first time.
if you want to see how it feels with thicker sway on the fall run do it, put it in and it will be fine. I drove my car with both front endlinks shot and I did get lots of understeer but nothing really big. If I were you I would do it and see the differnce when you put the aftermarket endlinks.
According to this chart, you might be running a static 171 up front and a progressive 91-188 in the rear. (all in pounds per inch). If it's not exactly that, it will be pretty close.
