Honestly I read original post of this and personally I am with Nate, he received an infraction for no reason. He was telling a fellow member how it is, and someone got butt hurt.

ha ha... got out my ladel tonight.... stirring the pot.. I am sick of getting infractions cause i say something wrong.. hell lets just shut down the whole forum, open another maybe called AWD addicts and start afresh???

the original post was a cut and paste from the infraction I had... after re-reading it it wasnt as bad.. so it wasnt necessary to air it out...

as far as emo.. far from it.. I would make a more sarcastic comment but seeing as you havent been around for long and I got the infraction cause of my comment to alex in another thread I would hate to butt hurt a reasonably newbie on here...

that being said.. close, lock or delete this thread....

That is just it, I don't think the infraction system is working. Isn't part of a forum supposed to be suggestive? So .. I suggest you review other methods of punishment, for the infraction system isn't working - and the only people to receive them are:

1 - blatant jerks, like that crosschofas guy
2 - people who practically beg for them - like the "I want infractions" thread

But I will say - bottom line - it IS a good idea, when it's possible to watch for it all the time. But I think the mnsubaru mods have better things to do with their lives than watch the site constantly.

Yep, we need to do a better job of being consistent with the rule enforcement. I'll admit to that. That something us mods are discussing how to do.

i dont expect you all to go back and give everyone that said fag an infraction, but i dont think i deserved it..... prezawagon you always do a good job at weeding out good posts from bad, and you are online constantly so dont take this as a shot at you. you didnt give me the infraction anyways.

Nope, I didn't take it that way. But there are a lot of things that we are letting slide, like typing around the swear filter. We need to revise the rules to fit more what we want for this site, and come up with a plan to more consistently enfore them.

Right now it's up to each moderator to decide when a post crosses the line, and all the mods see that line differently and certainly all the members do too.

well Scuba is abotu teh only one who gives me infractions or warnings.. he is always good about it.. never an a-hole.. but I just think lately the people who should get infractions are

    1. the ones who cant hit the search button
    2. newbies who start ripping on long time members, then we get blamed when we give a shot back...

prezawagon does a great job as stated above... actually they all do.. just one of them picks on me.. I think he may have a little man-crush on me... ha ha a

Hey prezawagon, what about member ratings? Have posts be "voted" on like on youtube (but not as bad as they have) by the other members ?

that way, if a post is bad, you will be notified and can take action or leave it ?

That things like that are used on other sites in various forms. My favorite rating system is the "gas gauge" over on http://www.thumpertalk.com

I really want to do something like that. Kinda like what slashdot (shudder) has. If a post is below your threshold, you don't see it. Members can vote up or down a post.

We could even replace post count with rating. The more "good" posts you have, the higher your rating. As long as it doesn't turn into a popularity contest...

preza, to do that, you'd have to scrap .. what is it that you're using ... vbulletin? and get another type of forum software... or find a plugin for this that does it well.

damn then about 90% of us over 2000 posts would be under the radar... ha ha

isn't the point of having an off-topic is to go for it (within reason)

I agree we take threads off topic every time... but maybe then what you should do is have a system where you guys (mods) can have a romantic dinner every time a thread is started, and have to approve it or the comments each time before they are allowed to be on the intranets...

Yeah,I'm sure there's some kind of plugin for vbulletin. But, realistically I don't have time to implement anything like that. There is some type of user rating already built in to vbulletin though, it's just not turned on for this site, I'm not exactly sure how it would work.

try it... cause personally it is getting old.... I am sure Steve is a great guy... but I almost delete my pm every time I see his name on it... ha ha ha

its kinda hard when I see posts at times that I feel are kinda questionable by a mod but nothing is said... why.. cause they are a mod...

The Tech/Tips/Newb Info forum is like that , 100% moderated, we need to approve each post before it will appear (no dinners involved). It's a lot more work and people post a lot less, but you do get some very ON topic threads.

It's tough to keep a thread on topic otherwise, the flow of discussion can go way off track from what the OP was talking about.

You can pm a different mod privately and complain, or better yet an Admin. I can't give points to another mod, but an admin can. :evil grin: <-- we need an evil grin icon already.

I just think lately everyone has been very itchy and cranky. Not a single thread in the last 4 weeks has stayed completely on topic.

That being said, I would like to see a bit more levity (not f4g or buttpee or gutter crap) in the off topic. Let off topic be a little more leanient, but the Tech Discussion and General and the like need to be more..... strict.

    Yeah, I agree with that.

I would say we make a General Community Discussion forum, similar to the General Subaru Discussion, but for ON topic non-subaru threads.

Off-topic would still have limits, but less moderated.

Then make the specific forums (events, mods/techincal, photo) more strict. Off-topic posts could just get moved to a Garbage thread inside of off-topic, no infraction, no warning, no pm, just moved so we can keep the other thread clean.

    I'm not sure about this.

There is obviously a time were a thread can get way off topic, like when a "for sale" thread gets peppered by worthless comments. However, in general, I do not think it is the Moderator's responsibility to keep posts on topic. I see the moderators responsibilities more as the task of keeping douchbags and *******s off of MNSubaru.

^^ What Nate said. Discussions have to stay on topic when it is a legitimate thread, or else the whole forum turns into off-topic. That wouldn't be fun. Say you're looking for some information and you're sifting thru page after page of garbage. Its really not fun.

Yeah, I guess I get that. I also understand how everyone's version of an a$$hole (what I originally posted) is different as well. Moderating all threads to keep them specifically on topic just seems a little....heavy handed.

I should mention, however, that currently I don't feel like the mod's are out of line regarding keeping technical threads on topic. Most "nudges" seem perfectly acceptable. I guess I just didn't care for the language Shibbs used.
