    Hey everyone,

I'm by no means new to the whole car gig, but I am new to Subaru. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys.

I will be modding this car somewhat, but want to retain as much warranty as possible. If anyone has some suggestions for mods that won't kill my warranty, please let me know. I just installed my Kartboy short shifter last night. Besides that, I plan on getting coilovers, sway bars, catback exhaust, Downpipe (if warranty allows), TMIC, and wheels (thinking something like 18x9-9.5" would be about right). I want this thing to eventually outhandle my M3.

Some of my previous cars would include (in order form most recent to oldest):
2008 VW R32 (sold last tuesday)
2007 BMW M Coupe (sold 3 weeks ago)
    2004 Audi S4
    1996 M3 (currently own)
    2003 Lancer Evo (very modded)
    1995 M3
    1991 MR2 turbo (very modded)
    1993 Talon TSI
    1995 Eclipse GS-T

    Current cars:

    2011 WRX
    [IMG]
1996 M3 with my (now sold) M Coupe in the background

    See you guys around!

Welcome to the Subaru community. If you replace exhaust components, be sure to do your research and get an appropriate tune.

    Enjoy the new car!

Do you plan on just using it as an everyday driving or do you plan on maybe autoxing/track days? If you are gonna run coilovers I hope you plan on putting them to good use!

Yeah I'm sure I'll be visiting Shane at DB a lot again if I can get tuned "somehow" without voiding the warranty.

Haha, I get that all the time! Well, I'll sell it for the right offer. I've had offers of 10k for it. If someone offered that right now, I'd probably take it. I've got quite a bit into that car. Let me know if you are interested in checking it out. I live in Bloomington.

It would be more for daily driving and winter duty. The wheel gap must go though! So no, they wouldn't go to good use. :)

I'd be interested to know how much this improves the numbers for the 2011 WRXs. I remember looking at the exhaust at the Morries event and the diamter looked really tiny...

    Nice car(s)! welcome!

I'll get more pics of the WRX up soon. I just debadged most of the rear. I'm undecided if I want to remove the WRX badge. I'll post a before and after pic of where I'm at now, and you guys can let me know what you think.

I love the M Coupe too, but they are TERRIBLE cars to drive. Everything was way too touchy to the point it was near impossible to drive the car smoothly. The gearbox was notchy as all hell, and second gear would always grind if you tried to shift fast (problem with 95% of all the Z4 Ms). The front end is so long that its difficult to park, since it's hard to tell where the front begins. I always ended up parking 2 feet away from the curb because I didn't want to scrape the front bumper.

Oh, and driving in sport mode? Fuggetaboutit. Drivabily goes from crap to nightmare. Seriously cool looking car though!

Haha did I? That's hilarious! I'll go check your thread out.

I left my WRX, but its lower on the trunk on my 09. It looks weird up so far on the sedans.

    I'd lose it.

The B6 S4 is my favorite car I've ever owned. There's only one car that could be any better for a year-round daily driven sport-luxury car, and that's the RS4.

    I WILL own another someday.

This is a killer collection (certainly puts mine to shame).
Do you mind if I ask why you didn't like the Z4? I know a guy with one and would love to rag on him about it

    Sure thing!

Gearbox is extremely notchy. 2nd gear grinds at high RPM if shifted too fast (happens on like 95% of the Z4Ms). Search bimmerforums.com for many threads on it.

Near impossible to figure out the dimensions of the front of the car when trying to park. Sometimes you'll be right next to the curb, other times 2 feet away. It just kinda feels weird to drive because of this. Think about what it would be like to drive a school bus, but the steering wheel is in the 4th from the last row in back.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to drive smoothly. I like to think that I am an excellent manual transmission driver, and I have never had such a hard time driving one. To have a perfectly smooth 1st-2nd shift, you need some serious patience. But wait, you can't have patience because the RPMs drop so damn fast that if you aren't in the next gear within 1 second or less, you'll have to ADD throttle to bring the RPMs up to match where you need to be at for that gear. It's like that for every gear.

Do you like having your windows cracked while driving in the rain? Well forget that, unless you like all the water running across the car to come in and drip all over your leg and door panels. Guess where it goes first though... right into the window switches.

The interior cabin of the car is small. Your windows will fog up just from your breathing. If you have a passenger, it'll happen twice as fast! Especially when it's raining out. Let's revisit the "cracking your window open in the rain" for a second. You WILL need to do this sometimes. Why? Because on a chilly and rainy day, the windows will fog up like crazy, and the ONLY way to un-fog them is to turn on the AC... and you will freeze your ass off. What's the alternative for not freezing your ass off? Cracking the windows open.

The "Sport" or "M Mode" button... Now that button is pretty misleading. On this car, it does NOT add 50hp or anything of the sort. All it basically does is increase throttle response. Example: 1/4 throttle now equals 3/4 throttle. It makes the drive-by-wire servo for the throttle bodies react quicker (probably the best way to put it). As if driving the car in "normal" mode was hard enough, this mode makes it damn near impossible. Have you ever been at a red light, not paying much attention, then the light unexpectedly turns green, and you think "oh ****:eek4:", and you nearly stall or rev too high and look like an idiot while getting going? If you do this with "sport mode" on, you will rev up to 5k RPM in what seems like a millisecond, then attempt to slip the clutch to quickly bring the revs back down, but overdo it and nearly stall the car, then add throttle to compensate, but again the revs shoot up way faster then expected, so you pop the clutch out because by now you are thinking that if you don't move, people are going to get pissed, the car jerks like mad, the tires are chirping away, and you look like a total jackass who can't drive. :ugh:
Sport mode = Undrivable mode (in the city at least)

Everything else about the car is absolutely wonderful, though.

I think it was in July. I was given an offer by a friend that was too hard to refuse, plus I wanted more cash to put into the M3. In hindsight, that was a terrible idea, because now I get to see my MR2 at least once a week and it makes me all sad. :(

Words can't describe the time and money I put into that thing...

I was wondering if your car is still stock? If you're ever near the cities or in the northern suburbs, I would love to compare the exhaust note to my '11 WRX hatch. I know the sedan is a lot louder, but I'd love to get it on video. Send me a PM is you're interested.
