We got about golf ball sized. I pulled my car into my neighbors garage. But my family still had 3 cars in the driveway. I covered them with thick blankets to try and help. Cant asses damages yet. My sister was at wallmart and she said there were ones the size of baseballs. The car parked across from her had holes in the windshield. I nervous to dry any of our cars.

Nailed with it while driving through Anoka this afternoon. I got nasty dents on the hood and around other parts of the car. The body shop calculated more than $2k worth of repairs. Ouch!

Good thing for insurance... I guess.

My parents' cars (down south of the cities) are seriously dented up, the windshields are all smashed up and the rear window was completely smashed out on one.

Our (four) cars are just fine in S. Mpls.

The shop said they'd be able to get some of the smaller ones out with PDR. The aluminum hood is the hard part. It has the most damage and aluminum is too hard to work with, so I think they're just going to order a new one, paint it, and put it on. The hood accounts for half of the total repairs on the entire car.

Chris, they can do PDR on your hood. When BP Subaru got hit last September they did PDR on all the cars, and all of the Foresters, Legacys, Outbacks and some of the Imprezas all have aluminum hoods and various other body panels. They PDR'd every one of them. The PDR guy at BP Subaru is awesome, he got out a couple of good sized dents in my car and you can't even tell they were there.

I got a phone call from my parents in Northfield...Baseball sized and bigger. The rear windshield on my old Audi is gone, the sunroof on my moms PT Cruiser is gone, and my stepdads new 06 Dodge Ram 3500 has about 30 dents in it :( Glad we didn't get that in Golden Valley...I saw a few cars getting towed that looked like they'd been shot at.

This is what my mom's car looks like now (in Northfield)

Too bad the plastic panels on Saturns don't extend to the hood roof and trunk...:

I'm going to be over my deductable even if they could PDR the hood, so I guess it's up to them if they want to replace it. Thanks for the information, though. That good to know for future reference.

Sorry to hear about your Audi. Hail sucks. :(

    Another storm casualty

Aww poop, after last Thursday's massive downpour and gale-force winds, I paused to consider driving down a completely-flooded city street, decided NOT to, and pulled into Schwinn's parking lot to find a different route.

Unfortunately, the water was axle-deep at the curb where I turned in.

Everything seemed okay though and I made it home, but Monday, looking at it from a distance, something looked different about my car.
    Hmm.
0H N0ES, MY FRONT LIP IS GONE!!!

I drove back to the Schwinn lot and didn't see any Electron Blue Pearl debris on the lawn... but before giving up entirely, I walked around the back of the sign-painter building on a hunch. TA-DAAA! There's my front lip, in the dumpster!

Glad I noticed before the trash collectors came. It's pretty busted-up on one side, and is pretty cheap fiberglas anyway, so I'm not sure whether it's worth "fixing" and remounting or not. But at least I recovered it, which is better than wondering which might've happened to my possibly-usable front lip...

well i just got my pay out done today they gave me around $5grand Question is, i have gotten quotes for a lot less. Is it considered insurance fruad if i get it for less else where and pocket the rest of the money? Basically the guy who inspected my car was super cool this morning and said i would need a whole new hood, said they would have to do standard (non pdr) dent removal on both the front fenders and roof, so i would have to get that re painted, the everything else could be done via pdr. So what would you all do?

In PA, you'd pay the guy with the biggest quote, what the smallest quote was . . . in cash. Dude knew he was boosting your quote & you'll return the favor by paying him in cash for a service he won't be
mentioning come tax time. He'll still come out ahead and you'll have a little in your pocket. My rates will go up along with everyone else's, but hey . .. this is the land of opportunity if you are an insurance company.

No, it is not fraud if there is some left over. They will get it back when they hike our rates.
