Wow, low end torque and instant onset of boost, holy smokes! It causes me to rethink my 20g plans, I realy like low rpm boost, however.. it does fall on it's face pretty quick....

I'm still going to run a 20g this summer, but man this is better than I had expected from an OTS map. Ohhh, and it seems to start even better in cold weather than before.

who else was suprised by cobb stage 1 in their 2.5l wrx?

Well, no experience with any of the Cobb maps, but a stage 1 reflash blows any stock map out of the water, on any WRX. I found that the drivability increased 10x with a stage 1 reflash, which made the car much more fun to drive.

The 2.5L just has gobs of torque down low. You may want to give stage 2 a shot, as 2.5L WRX's are a lot of fun on the street. Here's some proof of the difference.

I've thought hard about it, and as great as stage 2 is, "I want to go fast" . I'm going to do a major install week this spring and I'm going to install...

    es450 td06h 20g
    860 modded stock injectors
    walbro 255 fp
    COBB Protune, Conservitive street tune.
Gimmick motorsport 2.4 turbo inlet and after MAF
    GFB 50/50 BOV

soon to decide on exhaust and intercooler, thinking of getting the CSS fmic in stealth black.....

Yeah the 20g is IMHO one of the better turbo's for the 2.5L Subie. Lotsa usable power. You'd better keep a tranny fund, though.

Yeah, it is a great mod, especially for a 2.0L WRX.

yeah the cobb ap seems to be working very well, I'm eager to see what it will do as a protuned 20g 2.5 l,

so far I've got the COBB APv2, 255 fp, 850 injectors, the GFB BOV, and the es450 td06h 20g

I think the turbo inlet and after maf are not needed....

but I'm trying to find out if I need a FMIC or can I get away with a TMIC?
I'm looking for a conservitive tune 350whp maybe at 18psi, what do you think I can get away with for the intercooler?

    Bullwinkle FTW!

Lots of power with the stage one flash and even more with the stage two. Can't wait for the warranty to end!

Warranty? I've been Stage 2 since about 1k miles on my 07. I've never had an issues with the dealership on either my 02 or 07 when bringing it in for something. My VF39 swap may be another story.

I suppose a roached clutch or grenaded tranny would be a different discussion but Stg 2 is only a TBE and a flash.

Uh, isn't Stage 2 supposed to include a UP, DP, or both? Stage 1 is supposed to be a TBE or DP.

Stage 1 is just a reflash.

Stage 2 adds the TBE, a different reflash and maybe an UP...depends on the MY of your car.

More accurately, it depends on the manufacturer of said staged package.

Cobb pretty much universalized the idea that:
    "stage 1 = reflash"
"stage 2 = TBE and reflash... with the option to do just dp, and recommended UP for factory catted cars etc..."

There were (ecutek) and are (dynoflash) other aftermarket staged packages that use different definitions.

I'm developing my own Stage 2.53791 - it adds a VF39 swap, GMBCS and tint on my sunroof.

Stage 2 doesn't even need to be a TBE. You'll see a ton of people just running DPs or stealth backs.

Si. I'm running a Maddad Stealthback w/ stock axleback. I guess I'm Stage 1.75 to be more accurate.

Nah, you need a turbo to run Stage PI. And since you quit the E85 you dropped from Stage 20/7 back down to 18/7.

    No Stage 3.142857... for you!
