This is for Johnny Appleseed and Ying Yang Yia. Thought this may help you guyss. I just installed my Tein springs this weekend and did it w/o a spring compressor. How u asked. } Well if given that your putting in shorter springs, you can unload the spring coil before completely unbolting the last few bots on the top mount and lower arms. But you will want to at least have taken the nuts off the lower arms and keep the bolt in and keep a few bolts on the top. Than after unscrewing the nut for the strut at the top and the spring has uncoiled, you just need to take it out. I had forgotten how noisy it was to have stock shocks with aftermarket springs. clunk clunk clunk [xx(] (I think this is what OB1 was trying to tell me before I bought it from Kyle) Yeah it corners better, but the noise is starting to bother me. I may just get some coilovers, but not anytime soon. The only thing I would highly recommend having when U do the install is a air compressor to unscrew the spring bolt at the top. Enjoy. Chong
Chongie, you have the springs, now get the coilovers! As for the strut top nut, an alternative to airtools in this situation is a rubber gripper from Sears. I have both a small one and a large one. It'll hold the strut in place while that person is taking it off or torqueing it down and another person is applying pressure to the springs. I've done the install just fine with one person working with me. No airtools, no spring compressors.
Heheheh. That really helps my brothaz, now can I borrow your tools Fong in about 3-4 weeks . Me and Johnny got it all taken care of. Mushashi: is an alignment neccessary after you instal the springs?
"Chongie, you have the springs, now get the coilovers!" I'm trying to not putt too much money into this one, cuz if I do, I'm going to end up racing it. Dont temp me, I have not trying not to buy stickier tires and wheels, you have no idea, how bad it is for me right now. ! Yia: In my case, NO, usually you should not be needing one, but thats going to depend your own case. C
If you asked me, I recommend you get an alignment... especially after swapping in new struts/springs. It's just the right thing to do.
How much is it? and where is the best place to get it? I've heard certain places will screw you over.
Wheel alignments in the metro area has been covered. Helped ya with a little search... http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=129 http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=199 Noah, the car doesn't need to be on a lift, just jack stands. Besides, how are you going to get to the three bolts on the top of the struts when the car's in the air? If you would like to see them work, Yang and John wouldn't agree to have a person there just to watch them work, so pick up a wrench for then when they drop it. They can't complain then.
Hey!!! Who's been calling me Johnny boy?!? Anyway, if I were to put in some KYB strut alone with the spring....is it the same process??? How much extra work am I looking at??? J

You'll be swapping the bottom spring seats as well as the top. I'm starting to think you guys are gonna f*ck up and knock someone out. I'll lend a hand if I get proper notice.

Well I bought these springs like a month ago and I just haven't found the time to put them in. How long did it take you? And when I get a chance to install them it would be nice to get someone that has done it before there. BTW I have access to lift, spring compressors, and all sorts of air tools.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh..........balatroWRX....you want to join the "spring install club"?!?! Together we shall conquer!!!!!
balatroWRX: It took me probably 3 hours, the hardest part was trying to break loose the bottom strut bolts. But if you have access to all those tools, it should take you much less. I went from jacking one wheel to another, so that took a bit of time. And dont forget you have to remove the rear seats. It may be a good idea to have all you guys there together whether if your all installing or not and have some of use experienced there to help out. Just let us know in advance, lots of helping hands here. C
balatroWRX; welcome to the spring installation club. We should get together when all our parts are here. I'll see you at the meets
